Some preliminary comments:
The programs listed here are different and simpler and usually more sophisticated than the programs on the Visual Basic page.

The following programs were designed on a WindowsXP computer using a Screen resolution of 1024 by 768.  I designed these programs on a Laptop, 17 inch screen, with WindowsXP, with the mentioned screen resolution and 32 bit color.

To download the application programs below you must click either the right or the left mouse button (usually right button depending on the kind of browser you are using) when the mouse is over one of the .zip file names in the second column in the table above, either click on it to save or run (for unzipping, which in most computers happens automatically)  or choose "Save Target As ..."; then run the saved file (a good idea to check for viruses before running any downloaded program).

If you have problems with the 6 Talking programs below you might want to download and install a wonderful Text Reader,  Readplease, that is free with no time limit.  Also, Readplease Plus which you can try and is free for 30 day
The Talking programs below will then work:

For the Readplease program download, click:

3.  Wordmess.zip (10 kB) The phenomenal power of the human mind...
According to a research at Cambridge University, it doesn't
matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important
thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place.
The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without a problem.
This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself,
but the word as a whole. Amazing huh? Yeah and I always thought
spelling was important!  This program scrambles the letters accordingly.

a fraction of a second to over a minute.

You must copy all 3 files to the same directory or folder.

Poetry Creator:
 1. Poetry Creator.zip (15 kB) This program can be used to compose primitive poetry.  Examples include  Natural Poetry, Scary Poetry,
Peaceful Poetry, The Daffodil Poetry. These have less than 50
phrases each.  You can also use your own phrases to create poetry.

10 Code and Decode Programs:
1. Secret Picture 3.zip (17 kB) This program will scramble a picture that has been pasted or opened.
This scrambled picture can then be saved (or copied) and attached to an e-mail to be sent for the recipient to decode (or unscrambled).  Also, you can use the text tool in Microsoft Paint to make a picture of a message, then use this program to scramble it.
2. PrCode.zip(23 kB) This program codes and decodes secret messages whose coding is based on prime numbers in enormous numbers in any number base between 2 and 66.  Secret numbers can also be included.
To send a secret e-mail, simply copy 2 enormous numbers from the program and paste it into your e-mail.  Receiving a secret message simply copy the 2 enormous numbers from an e-mail into 2 textboxes in the Decode Window, click a button, and the secret message will appear.
You can also send  and receive messages  using  secret numbers and decode the message without the other (or the public) knowing what the secret numbers are! -- Without communicating these numbers.
3. Super PrCode.zip(23 kB) This super PrCode program is similar to the PrCode.
One difference is this program handles 210 characters compared to 103 in PrCode. This allows many characters that word processors such as Microsoft Word may use occasionally. This makes this program run a bit slower and the enormous numbers used are a bit more enormous.
If you get 0's in the second textbox after coding means there are
characters used in the message that are very exotic and must be eliminated before Coding is done successfully.
You can also send  and receive messages  using  secret numbers and decode the message without the other (or the public) knowing what the secret numbers are! -- Without communicating these numbers.
4. HoogeCode 1 message.zip (17kB) This program hides your secret message in another message.  Send an e-mail attachment that shows a Fake message which looks usual, but has another message hidden in it that you can read with this program.  Even the spaces and carriage returns hide a character of the Actual message.  This coding is not done by substituting characters -- you see the same characters
5. HoogeCode 2 messages.zip (20 Kb) Similar to the above HoogeCode.zip except that 2 separate, different secret messages are hidden behind the same Fake message.  You cannot tell if there is a second hidden message unless you decode it in this program.
6. RGBCode.zip (35 kB) This program will take any message (any length, e.g. e-mails, text, books) and code it into pixels in a picture. The amount of space this code will take is very small compared to the space taken by the original message. With a click of a button the message is
coded and with another click of another button the picture
is decoded.  Additional coding can make it essentially impossible to be decoded by a stranger.  Even regular pictures can be decoded.
7. Caesar's Code.zip (16 kB) This program is a coding/decoding program that is of
historical interest, but can also be used to code/decode
with a secret number between 0 and 128.
If you use a secret number the recipient must use the SAME one.

Apparently Julius Caesar used this code to send secret
messages to his legions. It is not the traditional substitution
coding, but a position adjusting coding.
In this program I have added the ability to substitute before using
Caesar's position adjusting coding.
8.  tCode.zip(13 kB) This program coding depends on time, date and chance.  Every time you code the same message the coding is drastically different.  If you send it via an attachment in e-mail, the time of the e-mail is sent doesn't effect the code.
9.  TheDot.zip (14 kB) This program places a message into a dot.
You can Code and Decode any secret message (30,000 characters is the limit).
Unbreakable Code program and its satellite programs below

Main   TheUnbreakableCode.zip (53 kB) A simple kind of coding that is unbreakable - also decoding.  Best to send the secret code as an attachment in an e-mail.
Satellite 1.  RandomNumbers.zip (11 kB ) A Random Digits Generator.  Useful for producing keys for TheUnbreakableCode program
Satellite 2.  RandomnessCheck.zip (11 kB) Checks how random a sequence of digits is.  Again, useful for checking on Keys used in the TheUNbreakableCode program.
Satellite 3.  CodedPictures.zip (21 kB) Code and decode pictures (photos) in Hex.  The Hex can then be used in TheUnbreakableCode program to code the picture in an unbreakable code for sending as an attachment (then decoded).  The Hex file can also be used independent of TheUnbreakableCode program.

3 Music Programs:
 1.  EasyMusic.zip (13 kB) An easy way to convert musical notes and durations to numbers that can be used in MusicCode and NumberMusic programs.
 2.  MusicCode.zip (33 kB)
Some songs to use:
Danny Boy.rtf
Jingle Bells Easy.rtf
LWS.rtf, LWS5.rtf, LWS B.rt
Mary Had a Little Lamb.rtf
Ode to Joy easy.rtf
This program actually belongs to the Code/Decode section, where a secret message is hidden in music (file) to send by e-mail, or whatever.  You must use EasyMusic to produce the appropriate music notation.  Included on the left are some songs already changed and can be used in this program.
 3.  NumberMuisc.zip (42 kB) With this program you can alter music in various ways, such as reversing it horizontally or reversing it vertically.  Use the EasyMusic notation.
This program will also convert ordinary numbers for notes and duration to music.
Also use random notes with random durations.

5 Miscellaneous Programs:
1. CO2increase.zip (9 kB) Due to the burning of fossil fuels the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) level in the atmosphere increases every year.  This program calculates this increase.

3. Astrology.zip (20 kB) This program can be used to investigate how accurate
astrological predictions are.
4. PixelMove.zip (15 kB) A Maze Program. This program generates random distribution of Red spots that act like a maze. A Blue Spot smells colors (it cannot see) -- it is repelled by Red and attracted to Green -- so is attracted
to the top of the window. The Blue spot can only smell
the colors next to it so cannot attempt a long range strategy. It has no memory so that it has to do everything by trial and error. Quite fast.
5. Musinumparse.zip (18 kB) This program is used to produce data using digits
from the computer keyboard or note symbols for the free music program called "The Music in the Numbers" (MusiNum)
produced by Lars Kindermann.
The Internet address is:
http://www.forwiss.de/~kinderma/musinum
(128 instruments)

This program will generate equations relating any numbers (personal or otherwise) to another number such as any Universal Constants.

This is Fine Tuning Universal Constants to you personally.

Games:
 1. Scrambled Word Puzzle.zip (32 kB)  This program is a Word game. It scrambles four words of length 4 to 7 letters each (occasionally 8 letters).
Below the scrambled words are letter boxes for the unscrambled words.
At the bottom are letter boxes for the Final Word. This word has 4 to 7 letters (occasionally 8). The MISC - MIXED category is the largest category and consists of words from any category (1500 words).
This category has been produced by John Arthur Hooge, Coquitlam
 2.   Connecting Game.zip (23 kB)  This program allows you to play the Connecting game on the computer. You can either play another person or against the computer.  Also can print out grids for playing apart from the computer.
 3.  All Digits.zip (10 kB)  The aim of this puzzle is to fill in all the boxes with digits
so that the first 3 digit number plus the second 3 digit number
equals the third 4 digit number.
You can only use each digit once and you must use all the digits.
Some digits will already be filled in.
 4.  DoubleTurn.zip (18 kB) The aim of this game is to to be first to complete 1 row or 1 column or 1 diagonal of squares in a grid of the size you choose with your color and a shared color.  This is a 2 player game.  For each turn a person has to fill one square with his color, then another square with the shared color for a Double Turn.
 5.  SudokuSolve.zip (33 kB) An unusual Sudoku program that shows intermediate steps in solving Easy to Hard (but not extremely Hard) Sudoku puzzles.  Also print out puzzles and solutions with different formats, including photo backgrounds for each cell.  As well there are means of producing your own puzzles.

(1) Introduction:
VB .Net computer language has become my favorite for composing application programs.  With a simple one time download of the free .Net Framework (see below) you can download any VB .Net program (.zip) or other .Net program from the Internet or wherever and run it.  The .Net Framework will become part of all Windows operating systems produced after the present WindowXP.  If your operating system is Windows Vista or updated WindowsXP the .Net Framework may already be installed.  Then just download any of the above programs.

Although the free downloadable programs listed below  were produced for the WindowsXP platform I have found with the installed .Net Framework they will also run on Windows98.  I haven't tried them on other Windows OS's such as Windows2000, but I suspect they will also work on those (according to the literature, they will).  I would like to hear if others have been successful with the other Windows Operating Systems (e.g. Windows95??).

(2) STEP 1 (Do once only if necessary -- will then work for all applications):
The .NET Framework is required on each system that runs Visual Basic .NET applications (programs including the ones on this site and applications written in other .NET computer languages).  The .NET Framework is freely available as a single redistributable file (Dotnetfx.exe).  The Dotnetfx.exe is quite large (more than 20 MB) and when installed it is approximately 30 MB.  When my brother downloaded it on his Windows98 laptop by Cable it took him less than 2 minutes.  To download Dotnetfx.exe click  Download Center.  After downloading Dotnetfx.exe simply run it to install it.  This is a one time requirement only.

(3) STEP 2 (Download the application program [.zip] of your choice)
To download the application programs below you must click either the right or the left mouse button (usually right button depending on the kind of browser you are using) when the mouse is over one of the .zip file names in the second column in the table above, either click on it to save or run (for unzipping, which in most computers happens automatically)  or choose "Save Target As ..."; then run the saved file (a good idea to check for viruses before running any downloaded program).

I compose these programs for problems I set or others set for me to solve.
To me it is a fun thing to do, so enjoy!

Produced by Orland Hooge, Chilliwack, B.C., Canada.
