MISSION STATEMENT

The Okanagan Mainline Ostomy Association of  B.C. is an organization dedicated to helping persons with an Ileostomy, Colostomy, or Urinary Ostomy. A self-governing, non-profit group with medical advisors.

We provide a three point program devoted to public service:

1]     Assistance to the person with an ostomy
 *  The Association will send a member to visit the ostomy patient in the hospital pre-operatively  and/or post-operatively at the request of the physician, or enterostomal Therapist.
*  A member will be available to the patient for friendly visiting , reassurance and help with  ostomy care and appliances after hospitalization.
2]    Education and Information.
*  Meetings are held once a month.
*  An educational newsletter is published monthly and contains dates of meetings, and information helpful to all persons with an ostomy, their families, and friends.
* All members receive the national magazine, "Ostomy Canada", with the latest information on ostomy care, supplies, and equipment.
 3]     Rehabilitation.
* Members are given an opportunity to help others and so help themselves.  They are encouraged to resume their former activities in the home and the community as much
as possible , and enter into the Association's activities.
