  • 05/17/13 - Kamloops-based Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has announced the acquisition of three FM stations located in Calgary and Winnipeg, two from Bell Media and one from Astral.  The transaction is subject to approval from the CRTC and contingent on Commission approval of the pending Astral-Bell Media transaction.  Pattison release 
  • 05/09/13 - The CRTC has approved applications by Shaw Television to add digital transmitters to replace existing analog transmitters for CHKM-TV Kamloops and CIFG-TV Prince George.  Kamloops will operate on channel 22 with a maximum ERP of 30,000 watts at 150 metres EHAAT and Prince George will operate on channel 29 with a maximum ERP of 30,000 watts at 482 metres EHAAT.  Both transmitters will rebroadcast the programming of CHAN-DT (Global BC) VancouverCRTC decision  
  • 05/04/13 - Staff breathed a sigh of relief as they received an email from Rob Steele, president and CEO at Halifax-based Newcap Radio, announcing that plans for the sale of the company’s western assets have been terminated.  He said the process reaffirmed the value of the western stations to the company, and further stated that Newcap plans to be in the radio business in Alberta and BC for quite some time.  Newcap owns K96.3 CKKO-FM Kelowna and Country 100.7 CIGV-FM Penticton.  
  • 04/26/13 - AM 1150 CKFR Kelowna news anchor/reporter Wendy McLeod has been pulled off the air for conflict of interest after managers found out she was volunteering as a communications person for Kelowna–Lake Country Liberal candidate, Norm Letnick.  CBC News 
  • 04/06/13 - RTDNA Canada has announced its BC Regional Award recipients.  CJFC-TV Kamloops has won a Bert Cannings small market TV award for CJFC TV Evening News - July 5, 2012 and CKBZ-FM 100.1 Kamloops has won a Byron MacGregor small market best radio newscast award for B-100 Noon News - April 19, 2012.  RTDNA Canada release 
  • 02/18/13 - Bob Crouse, the voice of news, sports, and weather for CKXR Salmon Arm and the Big R network for over 30 years died February 7 after a two year battle with cancer.  He was 63.  There will be no service at his request.  Bowers Funeral Service obituary
  • 02/04/13 - Retired CBC Radio host Neil Gillon and his wife Lynn were among seven victims of an attack by a man wielding a knife and possibly a hammer in downtown Vancouver Thursday night.   Gillon had been with CBC Radio in Prince Rupert, Kelowna and Vancouver.  He also reported news for CKIQ Kelowna, now AM1150 CKFR, in the late 1970s.  Rod Mickleburgh, The Globe and Mail  CBC photo/news
  • 01/31/13 - The CRTC has approved an application by Vista Radio Ltd. to increase the maximum ERP for CJUI-FM 103.9 Kelowna from 10,000 to 36,800 watts, decrease the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 506 to -90 metres and relocate the transmitter site.  Vista indicated that it requested the changes in order to improve coverage in the West Kelowna area.  CRTC decision 
  • 01/25/13 - Jason Mann, VP programming for Vista Radio reports three current Juice CJUI-FM 103.9 Kelowna sales team members will be leaving over the next several weeks as the station transitions client lists and responsibilities.  Puget Sound Radio
  • 11/21/12 - Casey Clarke, known for his work on CMT, joins Country 100.7 CIGV-FM Penticton as morning host.  The show debuts in the New Year and will be called The Casey Clarke Show with Roo Phelps.  He will continue his nationally syndicated shows with CMT through Casey Clarke Productions from his new base in the Okanagan.
  • 11/19/12 - Revelstoke council is writing to the CRTC to have its local CBC signal switched back to being fed from Kelowna rather than Kamloops following a flood of emails from listeners.  The feed was switched when the CBC opened its Kamloops bureau and station in early October.  The Revelstoke Current
  • 11/13/12 - Long time The River CKRV-FM 97.5 Kamloops morning host JT James Taylor starts a new gig as midday host at Capital FM CKRA-FM 96.3 Edmonton.  He's been at The River since 2005.
  • 10/09/12 - Daybreak Kamloops with host Shelley Joyce debuted this morning on CBC Radio One CBYK-FM 94.1 Kamloops.  The show takes over from the Kelowna-based Daybreak South for listeners in the region of Thompson-Nicola, parts of the Fraser Valley, southern Cariboo, and Revelstoke.  An open house at 218 Victoria St. continues until 2 p.m. today.  CBC News
  • 09/07/12 - An official announcement is expected after 7 a.m. Monday on when the CBC Kamloops bureau will launch and who will host the CBYK-FM 94.1 morning show.  The four-person bureau located at 218 Victoria St. includes two former CFJC-TV personalities, anchor Rob Polson and reporter Doug Herbert.  Jason Hewlett, Kamloops Daily News  CBC Kamloops info
  • 09/04/12 - The family is planning a private memorial in Kelowna later this week for Rhythm Pals lead singer Jack Jensen, who died Friday August 31 in Kelowna.  The trio got their start with Bill Rea at CKNW New Westminster in the mid 1940s and moved to CKWX Vancouver in the early 50s.  They later toured the U.S., Europe and Asia, and worked in Hollywood before returning to Canada, where they had their own radio show on CBC.  The Rhythm Pals won awards for Canada's best country group in 1965, '67 and '68, and were inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour in 1989.  Don Plant, Penticton Herald
  • 08/30/12 - After less than four months as PD/morning co-host at Okanagan Country CIGV-FM 100.7 Penticton, Troy Scott was released from the station on Tuesday.  Morning co-host Roo Phelps continues solo.  Scott is a music programmer for the HANK-FM format at Kroeger Media.
  • 08/21/12 - The CRTC has approved an application by Voice of the Shuswap Broadcast Society for a low-power community FM station in Salmon Arm.  The new station will operate at 93.7 MHz with an ERP of 15 watts non-directional at 556.6 metres HAAT.  It is to broadcast 98 hours of programming each week, of which 62 hours would be station-produced, with the remaining programming obtained from other campus and community stations across Canada and from the CBC.  CRTC approval
  • 07/27/12 - Former K96.3 CKKO-FM Kelowna morning host Kevin McGowan died suddenly in Toronto August 8.  He was 58.  He had worked in Winnipeg and at several stations in Ontario and had co-hosted the morning show at K96.3 Kelowna when it signed on in 2008.  Tony Lofaro, The Ottawa Citizen  All Access Music Group

  • 07/18/12 - The CRTC has approved an application by CBC to shut down all its analog translators July 31 for its 23 English and French language television stations in Canada.  Included are numerous translators serving smaller communities on Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley and BC Interior broadcasting the programming of CBUT and CBUFT Vancouver.  CRTC decision and transmitter list
  •  07/07/12 - CBC will shut down the last of its analog television transmitters by July 31.  A long list of transmitters in BC will go dark, including several in the Okanagan.  The Corporation says the move will save $10 million a year which it will be put into programming.   • 07/06/12 - TJ Connors will co-host a.m. drive with Christy Farrell On The Juice CJUI-FM 103.9 Kelowna following the departure of Gary Long to GM/PD of Vista’s Cariboo Group and Justin “Drex” Wilcomes to group PD/morning host on Vancouver Island.  TJ will also handle the role of program director.
  • 06/28/12 - Former Victoria broadcaster Gerald Pash has been appointed as Citizenship Judge in British Columbia, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.  Following a 27-year career in radio in the Okanagan, Fraser Valley and Victoria, he worked for the Department of National Defence for 22 years as a public affairs officer at the Maritime Forces Pacific Headquarters in Victoria.  News release
  • 06/12/12 - Radio NL CHNL AM 610 Kamloops and the WHL Kamloops Blazers have signed a new agreement for broadcasting rights through the 2014-15 season.  It will mark the 29th consecutive year of Blazers games on Radio NL.
  • 05/09/12 - The new Country 100.7, CIGV-FM 100.7 Penticton debuts ‘Okanagan Mornings with Troy and Roo’ Monday morning May 14.  Troy Scott, known for his work at CMT and Jim Pattison Broadcast Group's Kelowna stations, hosts with Roo Phelps, who has been on air evenings at JRfm CJJR-FM 97.3 Vancouver since 2007.
  • 05/02/12 - NL Broadcasting has announced that Mike Evenson, formerly of The Q CKKQ-FM 100.3 Victoria, is the new p.m. drive host on The River CKRV-FM 97.5 Kamloops and Dennon Stein from SAIT in Calgary is the new swing announced for The River and sister station Radio NL CHNL AM 610.
  • 05/02/12 - James Peters has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 RTDNA Canada President's Fellowship.  The Fellowship of up to $3,000 is offered to a working electronic journalist annually to attend a seminar at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Peters is a reporter/anchor at the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group radio and TV cluster in KamloopsRTDNA release
  • 05/02/12 - JACK FM CHTT-FM 103.1 Victoria has severed ties with morning host Tarzan Dan Freeman, who was hosting the show from Rogers' Vancouver studios after being displaced from CFUN-FM 104.9 when it changed format last August.  Tarzan hosted a.m. drive at SUN FM CHSU-FM 99.9 Kelowna from 2005-11.  Puget Sound Radio

  • 04/26/12 - Former Kamloops and Vancouver broadcaster Walter Jones died March 22 in Langley.  He was 75.   His career included 15 years as a radio broadcaster with CFJC Kamloops and CKWX and CJVB Vancouver, and 27 years in sales, including a short time in radio sales at Vancouver market CISL in 1984 and '85.   No service is scheduled.  Sun/Province obituary
  • 03/30/12 - The CRTC has approved an application by CBC to replace the Corporation's existing transmitter CBYK-FM Kamloops, using its current technical parameters, operating at 94.1 MHz with an ERP of 4,750 watts non-directional at 124 metres HAAT, with a new Enclish language station.  It would provide, during each broadcast week, a minimum of 12 hours and 30 minutes of local programming originating in Kamloops.  The Commission also approved an amendment to the licence for CBTK-FM Kelowna by changing a number of translators to rebroadcast CBYK-FM Kamloops.  CRTC decision  Dale Bass, Kamloops This Week
  • 03/28/12 -  Longtime CFJC Kamloops employee and former City councillor Gordon Rye died Saturday due to natural causes.  He was 90.  A private celebration of his life was held Tuesday.  He was still working in radio when he was elected a city alderman in the early 1980s.  Mike Youds, Kamloops Daily News
  • 03/23/12 - Canadian Music Week has named Sunfm CHSU-FM 99.9 Kelowna broadcasters Dustin Collins Music Director of the Year - Small Market and Mark Burley Program Director of the Year - Small Market.  CMW release
  • 02/23/12 - Sun FM CICF-FM 105,7 Vernon morning show co-host and news anchor Betty Selin is one of eight recipients of the 2012 RTDNA Lifetime Achievement Awards.  She has received a number of awards since she began her career in broadcast journalism in 1979.  RTDNA release
  • 02/20/12 - The CRTC has approved an application by Newcap Inc. to acquire CKKO-FM 96.3 Kelowna from Sun Country Radio Ltd.  The price of the transaction after adjustments is listed as $5,329,147.  CRTC decision
