EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Edmonton Oilers still have
not relieved the chill of playing the NHL's first regular-season
outdoor game.

Joe Sakic collected a goal and two assists and David Aebischer
came within 10 1/2 minutes of his third shutout of the season as
the Colorado Avalanche posted a 4-1 victory over the Oilers,
who are winless in a season-high four games.

Edmonton took a four-game winning streak into Saturday's
Heritage Classic but was beaten by Montreal, 4-3, in sub-zero
temperatures. The Oilers have not won since getting outscored,
18-8, during an 0-3-1 stretch.

"We've got to start winning games like this," Edmonton coach
Craig MacTavish said. "This was a very beatable team tonight in
everybody's mind and our expectations have to change, have to
get higher to be acceptable."

Sakic opened the scoring and put the Avalanche in front for good
just 29 seconds into the second period, then took a shot that
Teemu Selanne tipped past goaltender Ty Conklin for a power-play
tally at 11:03.

"We just kind of hung in. This was the second game of a
back-to-back," said Sakic, whose team has earned points in six
straight road games (5-0-0-1). "It always helps when you can
get off to a good lead. We got one early in the second period
and played a solid road game from there."

Dan Hinote added a shorthanded goal in the third period and
defenseman Martin Skoula capped the scoring with 7:01 remaining.

Skoula split two defenders but was hooked from behind and had
only one hand on his stick when he pushed the puck at the net.
Conklin lunged for it, but it flipped up and over the goalie and
into the net. It was Skoula's first goal in 22 games since
April 2.

Aebischer was beaten on a power play by rookie defenseman
Marc-Andre Bergeron midway through the third period but made 40
saves to help Colorado improve to 9-2-1-1 in its last 13 games.

"I know I have to perform to stay here and to stay in the net,
that's for sure, but I don't feel any more pressure because I
know I have the confidence of the management and my team,"
Aebischer said.

"Abby played great for us," Sakic added. "He gave us a big
boost out there."

Aebischer also caught a break. With Colorado protecting a 2-0
lead in the second period, Edmonton's Fernando Pisani got off a
shot before barreling into the net. While the puck crossed the
goal line, referee Dan Marouelli disallowed the goal, ruling the
whistle had blown.

"(Marouelli) said Pisani went into the goaltender and it wasn't
a reviewable incident," MacTavish said.

The loss spoiled the debut of Oilers 41-year-old center Adam
Oates, who logged just over 16 1/2 minutes.

"He showed a little rust on the power play, but he's going to
get better," MacTavish said. "I thought for his first game it
was a decent effort."
