Pike fishing 2006

The Pigs of Spring !

2006 started out with a BANG!

This spring, I was invited  to fish a small lake on private land. Many (many) thanks to the gentleman who invited me. I understand the significance of this lake and hope it is preserved for a long time. It is quite small and could be fished out in two years of folks killed the large fish in there. Controlled harvest of a few larger fish is probably sustainable. It is a GEM! (For the record, it is an unnamed lake and therefore not listed on the southern Alberta "spring closure" list. It is open for fishing all year.)

I've taken two friends there and we all are completely amazed at this quality fishery.  Lots of pike and many are huge.

I've been asked where this lake is and of course I am not telling. We've named it 3M ... and you won't find that on any maps.

Check this out!    PIKE GONE WILD!  Pictures of large pike with the death bite on a smaller pike!

April  29, 2006. Son, Mike, with a decent 41-inch pike. We caught three or four small pike and then two at 41 inches this afternoon--in about 90 minutes. It was quire "snoozey" today. Mike had a mid-thirties pike follow his fly a few times and hang around when the fly was jig in front of it, but it would not hit.

April 27, 2006 .. Jeff and I dun good, eh? Five pike over forty inches in one two-hour tour!

We were not able to get a picture of the 42-inch pike at the end of Al's rod.
