La Fortuna Falls near Arenal Volcano. Very pretty down there.
The walk to the falls is equivalent of about 25- to 30-story-building set of stairs ... down to the falls and unfortunately BACK UP again.

Health warnings for old geezers with high blood pressure at the trailhead--fortunately, neither of us.

Was cool at about 20°C, but the RH in the forest was near 100 percent.

More jungle on the way to the town of Arenal.
This is most we saw of the Arenal volcano .. we waited four days for a view of the active top.
Butterfly on an oil palm.
A racoonlike coati on the road to Arenal.
A fruit stand in Heredia, a few km North of San Jose.

Although Heredia is in the 'burbs,  we got caught in traffic gridlock returning to our hotel on the edge of San Jose.

About 26 crocodiles were hanging below the bridge crossing the Rio Grande de Tarcoles ... no doubt waiting for some tourist to slip and fall over the edge. This croc was about 5 m long.
Waiting for food ???
One if hundreds of vultures just cruising the skies .. no doubt waiting for the remains of tourists eaten by the crocs.

Kidding!

Toucan at a rehab center.
Parrot at the rehab center.
White faced monkey. Many of these in the Quepos and Manuel Antonio area.
Probably a black iguana ... in Manuel Antonio Park.
This is a red boa in a mangrove tree. It is not poisonous.

Costa Rica has a lot of poisonous snakes such as coral snakes and bushmaster ... or ox killer. Nice name. How about Tourist Slayer. :)

(Being a wuss, I would not walk 2 meters into the jungle.)

The quintessential "vacation sunset" snapshot.

Sunset along west coast ... from restaurant.

Cute kids. The boys were sitting in the back of a small truck waiting for a soccer game to start.
This girl was at a roadside market with her mother.
Traffic in San Jose is terrible. We took a taxi downtown for ten bucks.

No place for a gringo in a rental.
