The Mothers
of Oak Bay Special Interest Group was formed in July of 2004 to advocate
for facilities and programs in our district for pregnant moms and
mothers of infants and toddlers. The founding members are Valerie
Irvine, Krystina Walton, and Josie deGreef, who are Oak Bay mothers
who volunteer their time to this non-profit cause. You can learn more
about them on the 'People' page of this site. We see our group as
a special interest group within the advocacy group of "Parents
for Infants and Toddlers in Oak Bay," which would include other
special interest groups that arise in the future.
The aim
of Mothers of Oak Bay is to support the development of appropriate
space, programs, and social opportunities for mothers in our district
and those mothers living on the border of Oak Bay.
Programs
may include, but are not limited to, prenatal health classes, infant
health classes, infant massage, infant CPR, baby games classes, baby
songs classes, reading with your baby classes, yoga with baby, and
sign language with your baby classes.
Social
activities may include planned or impromptu walks, park dates, potlucks,
or playgroups.
Businesses
and benefactors are welcome to support our group through a financial
or in-kind donation. We are seeking the donation of graphic arts skills,
stationery for posters, brochures, and cards, new couches for nursing
mothers taking classes, mats, toys, and other supplies for our space
at the Recreation Centre, as well as any financial contribution towards
renovations (should we be so lucky!).
