Stan Peters

Former CBC Announcer and program host Stan Peters passed away suddenly from a heart attack early in the morning on Saturday, March 4, 2006.  A Celebration of Life for Stan will take place on Thursday, March 16th at the Royal Canadian Legion in North Vancouver.

Born in Alberta in 1932, Stan became an announcer at CJVI in Victoria before joining the CBC as an Announcer in 1953.  He moved to Whitehorse in 1964 to take up the reins as Station Manager, returning to Vancouver in 1967 to be a Producer in Public Affairs.  The following year Stan returned to the job of Announcer and in his long career with the Corporation, he worked in radio and television not only as an announcer but also as news anchor and program host of shows like The 7-o'clock Show, Klahani, Noon Show, and Early Morning Show.  Author Chuck Davis, along with many others, remembers Stan as "a genuinely nice guy".  Chuck worked beside Stan for several years and took over from him as host of Two Hours Before Six.  He retired in 1989.  After retirement, he enjoyed being a member of the Burnaby Lake Flyers and the Commodore Computer Club.  He drove for the Vancouver Cancer Clinic and was very involved in his community by helping form the Grand Boulevard/Ridgeway Residents Association and the Coalition of Community Associations.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan; children Kathy (Keith), Geoff (Melaine), Matt, and Adam (Heather); and grandchildren Amanda, Nichole, and Sam.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 123 West 15th St., North Vancouver on Thursday March 16, 2006 from 1pm to 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Charities Fund, 1845 West 8th Ave., Vancouver as this supports the Cancer Car Program.
