David Lloyd George Roegele, born October 21, 1923
in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully May 8, 2008. He attended STCI High
School in Saskatoon, graduating in 1941, then served in the Navy aboard a minesweeper
before beginning his varied careers in truck driving, sales and his favorite, broadcasting
for both radio and television. His media career began in 1948 when he joined CKOK
Radio and CHBC-TV, Penticton. In 1950, while continuing his work with CKOK and CHBC, Dave
took on additional responsibilities as a Stringer for the Vancouver Sun and at the same
time was Sports Editor and Columnist for the Penticton Herald newspaper. In 1958, he left
these venues to work for Canadian Channing Corporation in Penticton but in 1960, he
accepted a position with CHEK-TV, Victoria. Two years later he moved to a position with
KTVW-TV, Tacoma, Washington and in 1964 joined KVOS-TV, Bellingham, Washington. In 1963 he
attended Tacoma Vocational Institute where he took a course in supervisory techniques.
1966 brought Dave back to Canada and the beginning of his long service with CBC British
Columbia. In December of that year, he joined CBC Vancouver staff as a Reporter in the TV
Newsroom. He became a Journalistic Editor there in 1975 and continued in that role until
his retirement in January, 1984. Dave was a member in good standing of the TV Newsroom Old
Guard and like all of them, delighted in telling stories of the good old days in their
cramped but happy quarters at 1200 West Georgia. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of
64 years, Beverly (Campbell) Roegele, his daughter Lynn (Bill), and sons Ken (Pat), and
Morrie (Leona), as well as several other children Dave and Beverly welcomed into their
home and considered extended family. Dave was very proud of his seven
grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and their families. He was the youngest of
six children born to Jacob and Rose Roegele and he is survived by brother Don Roegele and
many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by siblings, Ken, Olive, Doris, and
Freda. His family remembers that Dave was never at a loss for words, or without a joke to
share. 10-4, over and out until we see you again!
