John Richard (Rick) Jonasson was born
in Vancouver and lived his 32 married years in Cloverdale. He gently left this world
in the arms of his wife, Sharlene and his minister, Joan Scandrett, at Surrey Memorial
Hospital after a courageous four year battle with stomach cancer. He had a great
love of family life and leaves a legacy of lively living and giving. He was a
life-long broadcaster and a world traveler. He was also active in the community as a
volunteer fireman, as an event MC and as a volunteer at the Fraser Valley Cancer Centre.
Rick loved all music and
sang in both community and church choirs. Those who carry the gifts of his living
are his wife Sharlene, daughter Shelly (Brian), granddaughter Rachel, brothers Howard and
Leo and their families, a large extended family, a loving community of friends and a
close-knit community of colleagues and graduate students in the school of broadcast at
British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Rick began his broadcast career at CFCP in
Courtenay on Vancouver Island in 1966. He soon moved on to CJJC in Langley and
shortly thereafter to CFVR Abbotsford, where he entertained listeners for a number of
years. He subsequently joined BCIT in September 1984, becoming the Assistant
Instructor of Radio Broadcast Communications at BCIT and Operations Manager of CFML, the
campus carrier current radio station. |
