  • 12/22/04 - The CRTC will hold a public hearing starting February 28, 2005 in Vancouver to consider a number of applications for varied ethnic stations to serve Vancouver, mostly at 93.1 MHz.  CRTC release
  • 12/22/04 - Global Communications Limited has applied to the CRTC to operate a transitional digital television station associated with its existing CHAN-TV/8 Vancouver.  The new station would operate on channel 22 with an maximum effective radiated power of 8,300 watts at 670 metres.   CRTC release
  • 12/22/04 - CJAV Limited has applied to the CRTC to convert CJAV AM 1240 Port Alberni to the FM band.  The new station would operate at 93.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 6,000 watts, non-directional at minus 219 metres.  Proposed format is broad-based gold/new music.  CRTC release
  • 12/22/04- Westwave Broadcasting Inc. has applied to the CRTC for a licence to operate a new FM station in Gibsons to operate at 91.7 MHz with a maximum effective radiated power of 2,100 watts at 759 metres.   Proposed format is pop adult with music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.  CRTC release

  • 12/22/04 - After 45 years, Doug Warne and Ron Olsen continue to host the Scandinavian Hour weekly on KKNW AM 1150.  The program started on Seattle radio in the 1920s.  Nancy Bartley, Seattle Times
  • 12/20/04 - New Northwest Broadcasters LLC (not related to this website) has filed a motion of severance with the FCC to separate FM allotments near Portland from ones near Seattle, surrounding the move-in of KMCQ-FM 104.5 The Dalles OR to Covington WA.  If approved, this would give the green light to changes in northern OR, without them being held up by numerous pleadings challenging the Seattle portion of the proceeding.

  • 12/14/04 - The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has applied to the CRTC for approval to convert its existing CKBD AM 600 Vancouver to FM identifying as The Breeze.   If successful, programming would move to 93.1 MHz to serve Vancouver with a repeater for Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack at 99.9 MHz.  Additional information
  • 12/10/04 - Another petition has been filed with the FCC opposing the granting of the move-in of KMCQ-FM 104.5 The Dalles OR to Covington WA on the grounds that there is an existing precedent that, "Replacement of an operating station with a vacant allotment or unconstructed permit...does not adequately cure the disruption to ‘existing service’ occasioned by removal of an operating station."  FCC documents

  • 11/30/04 - The FCC has accepted for filing, applications for voluntary assignment of license from Entercom Longview License, LLC to Bicoastal Longview, LLC for the following stations: KRQT-FM 107.1 Castle Rock, KBAM AM 1270, KEDO AM 1400, KRQT-FM1 107.1 Longview and KLYK-FM 94.5 Kelso.  Also accepted for filing is transfer of control of KCTS-TV/9 Seattle from KCTS Association to KCTS Television Board of Directors and applications for license to cover for KXPB-LP 89.1 Pacific Beach and KGHO-LP 94.3 Aberdeen.
  • 11/30/04 - Vancouver market Classic Rock 101 CFMI-FM 101.1 will tribute John Lennon, who died December 8, 1980, by playing his music exclusively for 24 hours from midnight to midnight December 8.
  • 11/28/04 - Indicating that it may flip shortly by identifying as "Vancouver's official holiday music station", Clear-FM CKCL-FM 104.9 Vancouver (107.5 Chilliwack/92.5 Abbotsford) has moved to all-Christmas music "just for the weekend, to get into the Christmas spirit".  The trio of stations moved to all-Christmas on November 19 last year, prior to changing to AC/smooth jazz on December 26 from the previous alt/new rock format.
  • 11/27/04 - Sean MacLean, formerly of WGBH radio/TV Boston and a composer whose music was recently performed by London's BBC Symphony Orchestra, will be joining KING-FM 98.1 Seattle.  Seattle Times

  • 11/24/04 - A program that likely will be of interest to radio fans in this area is Radio Worth Fighting For, a one hour documentary about the crusade to save CKUA Edmonton, Canada's oldest non-profit broadcaster.  It premieres Sunday December 12 at 5 p.m. PT on Bravo!   • 11/22/04 - Getting a three day jump on Thanksgiving, Seattle market Warm KRWM-FM 106.9 has moved to Continuous Christmas Favorites.
  • 11/21/04 - David Grierson, host for the past four years of the CBC Radio One CBCV-FM 90.5 Victoria morning show On the Island, died of an apparent heart attack in Tofino Saturday morning at the age of 49.  He hosted programs at CHQM Vancouver in the late 1970s, news at CJAZ-FM Vancouver in the early 1980s, was later Program Director of CKKS-FM Vancouver and more recently weekend morning host of North By Northwest at CBC Radio Vancouver.   CBC photo and bio   CBC obituary 
  • 11/19/04 - CHBE-FM 107.3 has become 107.3 Christmas FM...Victoria’s Official Radio Station of Christmas!  The station, along with sister CFAX AM 1070 officially changed hands from Seacoast Communications to CHUM Limited on October 1st after receiving CRTC approval in early September.
  • 11/18/04 - Two Seattle market stations plan moving to all-Christmas music by Thanksgiving Day -- down from three last year.  Infinity Broadcasting will add operations personnel and a PD at KPTK AM 1090 and hints at some local programming beginning early next year.  Bill Virgin's Radio Beat, The P-I
  • 11/16/04 - KSTW-TV/11 engineering advises that recent updates have been made to its broadcast antenna for its digital transmitter.  KSTW-DT/36 now is operating at full licensed power of 850 kW ERP at 275 meters HAAT. 
  • 11/15/04 - The FCC has granted assignment of license for KNWX AM 1210 Auburn-Federal Way from Entercom Seattle License, LLC to Bustos Media of Washington, LLC.  Plans are to convert the station from business and investing programs to a Spanish-language format.  
  • 11/12/04 - The CRTC has approved application by the CBC to operate a transitional digital television undertaking to simulcast the current analog programming of CBUT/2 Vancouver, with the exception of up to 14 hours per week not duplicated.  The transmitter will operate from Mount Seymour on channel 58 with an effective radiated power of 15,600 watts.  CRTC decision
  • 11/11/04 - Legendary DJ Red Robinson celebrates 50 memorable years in broadcasting on November 12.  Red started spinning the hits at CJOR Vancouver in 1954, becoming the first DJ to play rock 'n roll on a regular basis in Canada.  He moved to CKWX in '57, then to KGW Portland in '59, returning to Vancouver in '61 as PD of CFUN, later moving to CJOR, CKWX and CISL.  He emceed the Elvis and Beatles concerts in the city.  Red continues broadcasting oldies Sundays from 12-4 on CISL AM 650.
  • 11/03/04 - Trinity Television has applied to the CRTC to add a transmitter in Victoria to broadcast the programming of CHNU-TV/66 Fraser Valley.  The new transmitter would operate on channel 21 with an ERP of 1800 watts at 273.7 meters.  CRTC application
  • 11/01/04 - Rogers Media has reached an agreement to purchase religious station NOWTV CHNU-TV/66, licensed to the Fraser Valley east of Vancouver, from Trinity Television Inc.  Rogers has committed to maintain the current Vancouver workforce at the station, which launched in 2001.  Ownership transfer is subject to CRTC approval.  Rogers news release
  • 10/30/04 - Legendary ex-Seattle jock Larry Lujack will be inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Chicago on Saturday, November 6.  Lujack entertained the Northwest at KJR Seattle from April 1964 to September 1966, moving on to WLS and WCFL Chicago.  He currently can be heard streamed on Real Oldies WRLL AM 1690 Chicago.  RHOF Release
  • 10/29/04 - KOMO-TV/4 Seattle has announced that it will add First News @ 4 weekdays from 4-5 p.m. starting Monday, November 1.  Kathi Goertzen will anchor.  KOMO-TV Release
  • 10/29/04 - The Jack Webster Foundation has presented its prestigious 2004 Bruce Hutchison Lifetime Achievement Award to long-time BCTV CHAN-TV/8 Vancouver news anchor Tony Parsons.  Parsons has anchored the station's 6 p.m. newscast since 1978.  2004 award winners

  • 10/25/04 - KPTK AM 1090 Seattle came into being at midnight with Progressive Talk, bringing Air America Radio and other liberal talk to local airwaves.  Meanwhile, the popular Music with Moskowitz, displaced by the format flip, can be heard Saturday afternoons on community radio KSER-FM 90.7 Everett.
  • 10/23/04 - Bill Virgin takes a closer look at the just-released Seattle-Tacoma radio ratings and speculates on the future of KYCW AM 1090, which flips to Progressive Talk as KPTK Monday morning.  Seattle P-I
  • 10/21/04 - Reports are being received that Air America Radio is coming to Seattle starting next Monday.  Other reports indicate it will be on Classic Country 1090 KYCW AM with a switch to Progressive Talk Radio.  This will be the second time KYCW has moved to talk.  The previous change was to Extreme Talk in August 2001 with a move back to country in May 2002.
  • 10/17/04 - At his request, there will be no memorial service for Phil Harper, who died at his Ballard home on Monday from complications related to diabetes and heart disease.  Lisa Heyamoto, Seattle Times
  • 10/15/04 - The Buzz KQBZ-FM 100.7 Seattle is running the Radio Stinkhole contest with the prize being your own radio show on the station.  Different contestants are heard each Friday on the BJ Shea Experience with the top 5 finale December 17th.  Official contest rules

  • 10/12/04 - Aboriginal Voices Radio continues transmitter testing on 106.3 MHz in the Vancouver area from Mount Seymour.  Listeners are invited to call in signal reports to its radio response line at 604-983-8053.  Testing is expected to last another week.  106.3 is the first adjacent of KWPZ-FM 106.5 Lynden.
  • 10/07/04 - Matthew McBride of McBride Communications & Media Inc., a partner in West Island Radio Enterprises, successful applicant for a new FM station in Tofino on Vancouver Island, advises that it should be on-air by mid 2005.  Call letters have been assigned, a website is up and the station will identify as CHMZ-FM 90.1 The Bear.  The area has been without its own radio service since CHOO-FM 101.7 went dark in January 2002.
  • 10/06/04 - Veteran KIRO AM 710 and KTTH AM 770 Seattle programmer/manager Ken Berry says he will leave the stations on October 10th, take some time off and return to the market in "three or four months".  R&R News

  • 10/03/04 - Ancil Payne, former president/CEO of King Broadcasting, has died at the age of 83. Seattle Times
  • 10/02/04 - The National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) issued a directive to all campus stations in Canada to program a minimum of 30 per cent female artists effective October 1, 2004.  An item in the Vancouver Sun dated August 28, 2004 and quoted on this page (see femcon 08/29/04) incorrectly identified the CRTC as the source of the directive.

  • 09/29/04 - The FCC has put out a Notice of Proposed Rule-Making for a new Class A FM to be licensed to Oak Harbor on 105.7 MHz, requested by Dana Puopolo of Santa Monica, CA.  Puopolo also proposed adding a Class A on 101.1 MHz at Coupeville which has been counter-proposed by Plan 9 Broadcasting to add the same frequency in Sequim.  Plan 9 also has proposed adding a Class A on 93.7 MHz in Port Angeles.  The frequencies are short-spaced to Canadian allocations and will require concurrence from Canadian authorities.
  • 09/28/04 - The FCC has granted application for CP to Washington State University for a power increase to 1.5 kW at 36 meters HAAT at 48-32-30 122-17-43 and frequency change to 89.7 MHz for KMWS-FM 90.1 Mount Vernon.

  • 09/20/04 - The CRTC has approved application by West Island Radio to operate a new FM station in Tofino. The station will operate at 90.1 MHz with an ERP of 170 watts and proposes a blend of Pop-Rock and Country music.   CRTC Decision
  • 09/16/04 - The CRTC has denied application by Wesley Shaw for a low-power FM station in Whistler to program a variety of dance music, operated by volunteers.  CRTC Decision
  • 09/15/04 - With 95 percent of precincts reporting early today, KIRO AM 710 Seattle talk-show host Dave Ross has won the Democratic nomination and 51 percent of his party's votes in the 8th Congressional District primary. KIRO-TV  Seattle Times  Radio Ink

  • 09/15/04 - Vancouver-based Adbusters Media Foundation has launched legal action against CTV, Canwest Global, CBC and CHUM Ltd. in an effort to win the right to buy airtime for its TV messages.  The broadcasters have refused to air some "social marketing spots", addressing a range of social and environmental issues "on grounds that they are too controversial, advocate ideas instead of products, and don't fit the broadcasters' business model".  Broadcaster Magazine
  • 09/14/04 - With the early success of satellite radio in the US, the two applicants for systems in Canada, Sirius/Standard/CBC and Canadian Satellite Radio/XM, are suggesting "license us both and let listeners decide". Broadcaster Magazine 
  • 09/14/04 - The CRTC has approved application by Hornby Community Radio Society to operate a developmental community station on Hornby Island on 91.5 MHz with an ERP of 5 watts.  CRTC Decision
  • 09/13/04 - KMIH-FM 104.5 Mercer Island has appealed to the FCC to reverse its decision to allow the move of KMCQ-FM 104.5 The Dalles OR to Covington WA.  KMIH maintains the Commission should reconsider, due to "overwhelming evidence that this proposal is merely a sly attempt at shoeing in another station towards the Seattle metropolitan area at the expense of area high school students’ education and an island, which overwhelmingly support KMIH and its mission to serve the public interest in their community."  The FCC is starting a review of the decision.

  • 09/07/04 - The CRTC has approved application by the CBC to operate a transmitter in Chilliwack to broadcast the programming of CBC Radio Two.  The proposed transmitter would operate at 99.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 790 watts.  CRTC Decision   The Commission also appoved application by the CBC to broadcast the programming of Radio One in Abbotsford at 101.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 67 watts.  Decision
  • 09/06/04 - As expected, The Beat CFBT-FM 94.5 has added Top 40 to its Urban format, identifying as Vancouver's Hit Music.
  • 09/05/04 - A void in the Vancouver market will be filled if The Beat CFBT-FM 94.5 adds Top 40 to the mix of its current Urban format early this week.
  • 09/02/04 - Police arrested a 28 year old Seattle man and have identified another, believed to have been involved in an assault on radio personality Tom Leykis on August 23.  No charges have been filed and the arrested man has been released.  Seattle P-I  Seattle Times
  • 08/31/04 - The New VI CIVI-TV/53 Victoria and Citytv CKVU-TV/10 Vancouver have announced that award winning reporter Moira McLean, from competitor CH CHEK-TV/6 Victoria, will join both stations as Legislative Reporter effective September 20.  This follows the acquisition by The New VI of news director Hudson Mack from CH earlier this month.  Broadcast Dialogue news
  • 08/30/04 - KAYO Country KAYO-FM 99.3 Elma General Manager Bill Bradley advises that the stations's new 41 kW transmitter at North Mountain is fully up and running with FCC authorization.  The new site is located at 620 meters HAAT at 47-19-12 123-20-41
  • 08/29/04 - In addition to Cancon, femcon is arriving on Canadian airwaves.  The CRTC appears to be exercising further controls on broadcast content.  An item written by Malcolm Parry in the Vancouver Sun Saturday (08/28) states, "The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has reportedly told campus radio stations -- including our town's CITR (CITR-FM 101.9 Vancouver) -- that they have until Sept. 1 to establish feminine content of at least 30 per cent."
  • 09/29/04 - As reported below on 07/26/04, former Vancouver Canucks owner Arthur Griffiths starts Monday with a program on ongoing NHL owner/player negotiations on MOJO Sports Radio CHMJ AM 730 Vancouver.  MOJO also adds Blake Price from TSN with The Blake Price Show weekdays 11-2 starting September 1, and on Mondays, starting September 13, Neil Macrae teams up with Bro' Jake Edwards for The Nooner 12:30-2 p.m.       
  • 08/27/04 - The Seattle-Tacoma Arbitron 12+ Summer '04 P1 book shows the ratings of the top stations little changed from Spring.  R&R details
  • 08/27/04 - Long time Vancouver Province political columnist Michael Smyth will host a new evening news program Nightline BC starting August 30th on CKNW AM 980.  The show will run weekdays from 7-9 p.m.  Meanwhile Saturday afternoon program UpClose with Dan Cook gets syndication into Toronto on the Corus Radio Network starting September 4.
  • 08/26/04 - Top 40 music charts, which used to be printed and given out at music stores, now are available only at some stations' websites, such as KISS 106.1 KBKS-FM Tacoma.   The feelings are mixed over the changes at KING-FM 98.1 Seattle.  Bill Virgin's Radio Beat, The P-I
  • 08/19/04 - The hiring of veteran news director/anchor Hudson Mack by The New VI CIVI-TV/53 Victoria should be a much needed boost for the struggling station.  Broadcaster Magazine
  • 08/18/04 - All Access Music Group (subscription service) reports that former KUBE-FM 93.3 and KJR-FM 95.7 PD and current Clear Channel Seattle RVP, Bob Case has announced he will exit the company effective January 1, 2005.  He will increase focus on his own consultancy, starting this September.
  • 08/17/04 - CKNW AM 980 Vancouver celebrates its 60th anniversary this Saturday, August 21st at the Pacific National Exhibition.  The party starts at the Pacific Coliseum at 5 p.m. with the Superdogs show and continues with a sampling of its 500 pound birthday cake at Festival Square, just west of the prize home.
  • 08/17/04 - Veteran CH CHEK-TV/6 Victoria news anchor Hudson Mack has been lured away by The New VI CIVI-TV/53.   Mack joined the staff of CHEK-TV in 1985, continuing a broadcast career that began in the BC interior in 1980.  He was named Assistant News Director and primary evening news anchor in 1989 and has twice been named Most Popular Victoria Television Personality in polls done by Vancouver's TV Week magazine.  He will anchor his first newscast on October 11.  Broadcast Dialogue
  • 08/14/04 - The CBC has suspended all audio streaming between August 13 and 29, with the exception of special editions of some CBC Radio newscasts.  Corporation websites display the message, "Due to International Olympic Committee (IOC) restrictions regarding the online transmission of Olympic Games coverage, CBC.ca is prohibited from streaming any live or on-demand audio/video files that may include protected Olympic material.  CBC.ca will resume full streaming services on August 30th."
  • 08/12/04 - The FCC has granted application to increase power of KXOT-FM 91.7 Tacoma from 7.9 kW at 168 meters HAAT to 39 kW at 168.3 meters with location virtually unchanged at 47-18-14 122-23-43.
  • 08/10/04 - The ashes of former CKNW AM 980 Vancouver news anchor Frank Fong, who died February 19 in Yellowknife NT, were part of the 9:53 p.m. warning shot which lit up the Vancouver sky during the final installment of the Celebration of Light fireworks display Saturday.
  • 08/10/04 - MOJO Sports Radio CHMJ AM 730 Vancouver has agreed to long term deals for broadcast rights to the NHL All-Star Game, Westwood One NHL Game of the Week, NHL Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Also inked through 2007 is golf play by play of the Masters, British Open, US Open and PGA Championship.  Additionally, MOJO has locked up exclusive rights to the Canada/USA preliminary round match-up in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey in Montreal August 31.

  • 08/01/04 - Well known Seattle radio personality, Alice Porter died Friday morning at the age of 44 due to a sudden illness.  She began in radio at KSWB Seaside OR in 1975, moving to Eugene OR in 1978, KEZX-FM Seattle in 1982 and KLSY-FM, first as an afternoon traffic reporter in 1986, then becoming part of the morning team of Murdock, Hunter & Alice, who entertained Seattle up until December of last year.  MIX 92.5 KLSY-FM will air a tribute Monday morning.
  • 07/30/04 - Talk show host and wife of ex Vancouver Canucks GM Brian Burke, Jennifer Mather returns to CKNW AM 980 Vancouver at 12:20 p.m. on Monday, August 2nd after 7 months of maternity leave.   Meanwhile, 'NW is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a special celebration at 7 p.m. August 21 at the Pacific National Exhibition.

  • 07/24/04 - "I leave you with one final warning.   • 07/24/04 - Members of the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 827-M employed by CFCP Radio Ltd. Coast Radio have ratified a tentative agreement, voting over 85% in favour of a deal which includes an improvement to wage scales, general wage increases, shifting from a 40 to a 35-hour work week for on-air staff and improved severance and layoff language.  13 full-time and several part-time employees will be returning to work as soon as possible.

  • 07/16/04 - A tentative agreement was reached late today between members of the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 827-M and CFCP Radio Ltd. Coast Radio.   Details have not yet been released pending ratification of the agreement, expected early next week.  The 13 full-time and several part-time employees work at CFCP Courtenay, CFWB Campbell River, CHQB Powell River and CFNI Port Hardy.
  • 07/15/04 - Negotiators for unionized employees at Coast Radio and the employer are scheduled to sit down Friday morning with a conciliator in Courtenay.   Wages and benefits are the two outstanding issues.  There have been no talks between the parties since the employees rejected the company’s last offer in mid June and subsequently walked off the job July 5th.  The previous contract expired December 31st.

  • 07/09/04 - The FCC now has approved the allocation shuffle which moves and adds stations in SW WA and NW OR.  Part of it moves KMCQ-FM 104.5 The Dalles OR north into the Seattle market with city of license at Covington.  This move will displace unprotected student-run Class D station KMIH-FM 104.5 Mercer Island, unless another frequency can be found in a very tight spectrum.   A report that the station is studying the feasibility of moving to 87.9 MHz is denied by station management, who indicate that the FCC decision will be appealed.  FCC Report and Order

  • 05/28/04 - Senator Maria Cantwell today announced proposed legislation which would protect educational radio stations from the danger of having their frequencies taken by larger commercial or public radio stations.   • 05/25/04 - Senator Maria Cantwell will be at Mercer Island High School Performing Arts Center auditorium on Friday May 28th at 9:30 a.m. to show support for the ability of local educational radio stations such as X104 KMIH-FM 104.5 to continue broadcasting their signals.  Under existing FCC rules, ten educational stations nationwide, including KMIH-FM, are at risk of losing their broadcast frequencies to commercial operators.  Representatives of X104 and Mercer Island School District will be available to answer questions.

  • 05/03/04 - TBN station KTBW-DT/14 Tacoma has returned to the air after about three weeks due to power failure damage to the station's digital transmitter.  It's analog signal on channel 20 was not affected by the outage.
  • 04/30/04 - Seattle-based Fisher Communications Inc. has reported a loss of $9.8 million compared with a loss in the year-ago period of $2.9 million.  Overall revenue has risen two percent and Fisher claims that it's loss from continuing operations actually declined from a year ago, if non-cash adjustments are removed from the equation.  Seattle P-I staff (2nd item)
  • 04/22/04 - Legendary Seattle morning radio personality Charlie Brown was honored with The Crystal Soundie for his contributions to broadcasting at last night's Puget Sound Radio Broadcasters Association (PSRBA) 2003 Soundie Awards presentation at the Red Lion Hotel.  Also on hand was his former KUBE-FM/KJR-FM sidekick Ty Flint.  The event was emceed by current KJR-FM morning personality Pat Cashman.  All entries must have aired between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2003 in Washington state.   PSRBA awards list

  • 04/21/04 - One of the highlights of the 60th anniversary of CKNW AM 980 Vancouver will be the airing of the Jack Benny Program just after midnight Saturday morning, April 24.   • 02/12/04 - Funeral services have been announced for Russ Simpson, who died January 29th, just a few hours short of his 65th birthday.   Services will be held at St. Stephen's United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach, BC at 1:30 p.m. Saturday February 21.  There will also be a tribute to Russ by fellow broadcasters and members of the music and advertising industries planned for March 2004 in Vancouver.  Photo

  • 01/30/04 - Well known Vancouver Top 40 DJ Russ Simpson passed away yesterday afternoon after a lengthy illness.  He started his radio career at CHOV Pembroke ON in 1958 and worked his way up to CKEY Toronto from 1960-64.   Probably best known in this area for his afternoon drive show at CKLG from 1964-67, he also hosted CHAN-TV's Windfall.  After a few more years back east, he returned to host mid mornings at CKLG during 1971-72 and later went on to sales at the station in 1974.

  • 01/18/04 - Correction to the item directly below:  On January 22, BCIT campus station CFML-FM celebrates its 22nd anniversary of being fed on cable in the Vancouver area, with a new website.  Siting of the transmitter is still in the approval stage with the owners of a building in South Burnaby.  Actual on-air date is not yet set.
  • 01/17/04 - After 22 years of serving the British Columbia Institute of Technology campus via carrier current and later on cable in the Vancouver area, CFML-FM Burnaby officially launches on-air at 107.9 January 22.  The station, now billing itself as Burnaby's Best Mix, received official approval from the CRTC on December 19, 2003.

  • 01/14/04 - Who says senior radio people lose their frequency?  Legendary northwest sportscaster and KLKI AM 1340 Anacortes Sports Director Bill O'Mara celebrated his 87th birthday on Monday, January 5th. The following day, he did play-by-play for a high school basketball game.  He still does regular sports updates for the station throughout each broadcast day, as well as play-by-play for high school basketball and football.
