08/01/01 - Salem Communications Corporation of Camarillo, CA has purchased the construction permit for KJUN-FM Scappoose, OR from Thunderegg Wireless, LLC of Bellevue, WA for $35.8 million.

KJUN-FM originally began broadcasting in Tillamook, OR on FM 94.1.  Then the station owner swapped frequencies with KTIL-FM, Tillamook on 104.1 and petitioned the FCC to move 104.1 to Scappoose, which is located about 20 miles northwest of Portland.   KJUN-FM was allowed to move into the Portland/Vancouver radio market when its city of license was reallocated by the FCC from Tillamook to Scappoose,

The planned transmitter site was near Scappoose, however it was soon realized that a required city grade signal strength could be fed into Scappoose from a site located in Portland.  After FCC approval, the new transmitter was situated at the so-called KGON tower in Portland and has recently begun signal testing.

Although it will be obligated under FCC regulations to identify itself as a Scappoose station, it is now on a virtually equal footing to other FM broadcasters licensed to the cities of Portland and Vancouver.

Recently, KJUN filed an application with the FCC to double the power of the station.
