Brad Muirhead
As a sideman Brad has been an active member of Vancouver’s professional and creative music community since 1980. He is an original member of Hugh Fraser’s VEJI and John Korsrud’s Hard
Rubber Orchestra. Over the years he has performed with Claude Ranger’s Jade Orchestra, Francois Houle Etc., Tribal Dynamics, the Miles Black Sextet, The Hugh Fraser Quintet and Lunar Adventures as well as such luminaries as Ray Anderson, George Lewis, Vinny Golia and Konrad Bauer.
He has been composing and performing his music since 1980 for his own groups and others, ranging from solo Trombone to 20 piece improvising orchestra. His main compositional influences come from the areas of jazz and improvised classical music. In August ‘97 he composed, conducted and performed his first commissioned work - a thirty minute, multi media piece called “Popping the Quiff” for the opening ceremonies of the 1997 Ars Mundi conference in Vancouver, and recently added a commissioned arrangement called “IN” for the New Orchestra Workshop.
