Nancy was the survivor on Elm Street and planned a trap for Freddy Krueger if she could capture him in her dream and bring him to reality which she did. Also Nancy's mother kept Freddy's glove with the blades after she and the other parents burned Freddy to death in his boiler room before Freddy turned into an evil nightmare spirit. After Nancy moved away from her house on Elm Street it became Krueger's domain so I guess the award is owed to Nancy for that.
