Neon Plastic Sign Service
began it's business in the Fort Garry area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
We were established in 1962 by founder Al Armstrong as a one man
operation. Al's trade was as a neon bender and the new business was
based on his knowledge of the sign industry in general, but primarily the
neon repair and production areas. The prime focus during the early
years was sign service, aerial crane use, and in house neon - both retail
to his own customers and wholesale to other sign companies.
In a number of years, as
business grew, a service man was added. In 1974 the current
president of the company Rob Armstrong, son in law of Al, joined the
business as a serviceman. With Rob's encouragement the company
expanded its focus during this time and began doing small sign faces and
boxes, but the majority of the business was still service and-in house
neon production.
1979: Rob became a partner in
the business and in 1980 the company moved to it's current location in the
Fort Garry Industrial Park. When Al left the business in 1981, Rob
purchased the balance of the company. With Al's departure some new
directions within the sign industry began. While sign service,
maintenance, neon repair/production and lot lighting were still a major
part of the business, we began to expand into other areas. Full sign
manufacturing, awnings, vacuum formed faces, as well as becoming the local
agent for numerous major Canadian and American sign companies allowed NPSS
to grow and become more diverse within the industry.
1986: the company became known
as Neon Plastic Sign Service LTD. A full Gerber Graphics station was
implemented to create patterns, layouts, vinyl cutting, and high quality
sketches. Shortly there after CSA certification was obtained by the
company.
2002: was a milestone year for
NPSS. We celebrated 40 years as a family owned and operated company.
Today Neon Plastic Sign Service LTD. continues to expand it's focus as the
sign industry continues to grow, and as new products and ideas become
available to create new and more exciting signage. |
