Papa Nambu Photo Gallery

Papa Nambus are also (although rarely) called Modified Type A Nambu Pistols or Modified 1902 Nambu Type Pistols. There were two makers, Tokyo Arsenal (also called Koishikawa after the part of Tokyo where it was located) and Tokyo Gas & Electric (TGE). I have three Papas, two from Tokyo Arsenal and one from TGE. Although scarce, they are not that hard to find in the USA, but here in Canada even most serious pistol collectors have never even seen one. I had never seen a real one until I got my first one. All three of mine were imported from the USA, a costly and time-consuming process.

The best of my Papas is this naval-marked TGE specimen.

The last one I got was the most beat-up, but that really didn’t matter to me. I wanted one to show disassembled in my display, and I didn’t need a pristine example for that. Besides, I got it for a great price, and it does have a couple of interesting features: after all, every gun has its story!
