Brief History of our 1965 Beaumont Sport Deluxe

We bought our Acadian Beaumont in the summer of 1999 from my younger brother. He had it parked in the back of his shop for several years. It was one of his too many projects that he knew was not going to get done.  It had been parked indoors for a total of 10 years by the time we bought it.

It was going to be a father and son project. My son eagerly helped along for a while. Since progress was very slow and he started to lose interest in helping, he did however give me plenty of moral support.  I had promised my daughter who was in grade 12 at the time that the car would be ready in time for her grad.  I was going to take her to the graduation ceremony with it.

The Beaumont was in fairly good condition for the year.  Most of the rust on this was located in the trunk and around the rear window. My limited body work knowledge was now impeding progress.  As the middle of January rolled around I realized that I was not going to get the car done by early June 2000.  The decision was made to take it to a 'shop' to have the rest done.  This shop had been recommended by somebody I know and it was in his friend's  "back yard." The deal was half the money for the work as a 'down-payment' and the rest when the work was done.  It did not take long for me to realize that I had made a huge mistake.  The car was in the guy's shop for two months but very little work was being done.  By the end of March, I had had enough.  I called a tow truck and had the Beaumont moved to Dancey Collision in Abbotsford.

Rick  was very friendly and the work was done in a professional manner. A little over three weeks later, (end of March) the bodywork was done and the car had been painted a real dark blue metallic color. Rick did a nice job on the bodywork and paint and we would recommend his shop if you need work done.

It took a few more weeks of hard work including many late nights at home to put the exterior chrome back on and the interior back in.  The car was done in time for my daughter's grad.

The car is a Beaumont Sport Deluxe 2 door Hardtop.  It left the factory as 1 of only 384 Sport Deluxe, 6 cylinder Beaumonts in 1965. It has  2 speed Power-glide transmission.  The original color was Crocus Yellow.  The Beaumont was restored to be a nice 'driver'. However, the car has made numerous  car show appearances  including Hot Nite in the City, in Kamloops and also the Langley Good-Times Cruise-in several years in a row.   It has won two trophies in 2004.   One in April  at the BC Classic & Custom Car Show where it won 2nd Place in the Best GM class at the Tradex in Abbotsford.  In June  it  won Best '65 Beaumont at the BC Chevelle & Beaumont Show.

The Beaumont gets a lot of positive attention, both on the road, as well as at shows. The car gets driven about a 1000 miles a year.  It also nice to meet people who have similar cars as mine. Numerous people have told me that they used to have a Beaumont and now regret ever selling it.
