9th Annual Gran Fondo/Independent Living Vernon Cycling Challenge

The route is modified to remove Hwy 97 portion between Vernon and Oyama. We meander more along eastside of Okanagan Lake between Vernon and Kelowna.

Gran Fondo Vernon is not a race. It is a time to ride with like minded cyclists that wish to challenge themselves for a  ride through some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere in the world.

The ride fee of $40.00 is payable at the time of online registration. What a great way to celebrate our good health in support of the designated charity Independent Living Vernon


Gran Fondo  2015 Ride Information

WHEN: June 7th, 2015. Slower riders from Vernon start between 6:15 am - 6:30 am. B riders at 6:45am and A riders  at 7:00 am.

We join Kelowna starters @  Giobean  in Kelowna for a  9:00 - 9:15 am departure.

WHERE: Start/Finish in Vernon from The People Place parking lot @ 25th Ave/27th Street. For any out of town riders this is at the south end of Vernon near where Hwy 97 meets 25th Avenue. 

Kelowna riders will have one more leg to go back to Kelowna. This will be unsupported so  any 1st time Kelowna riders it is recommended that you start and finish in Vernon or follow the directional cue sheet guide 166K Cue Sheet.   

WHY: Spend a day with friends on a Challenging(166K/144K) ride through some of the most breathtaking scenery celebrating our good in support of a good cause for the designated charity Independent Living Vernon

WHAT: This is a casual semi supported ride with some food-muffins, cookies, etc., and water provided from the support vehicles.

 Support Vehicles:  Great News...Hilltop Subaru has come forward again to provide an additional 2 support vehicles

There will be 3 support vehicles along the route. These vehicles will have  food and drinks for you along the route at the designated stopping points. You are responsible to carry your own bike repair items such as tubes and pumps on the ride.

 Designated support stop locations will be:

1st stopping point will be in Kelowna at the Geobean Expresso on 1320 Water Street which is at the 57K mark. Food and Fluids will be available at the Support Vehicles -Hilltop Subaru and (Blue Dodge Caravan).

Starting Kelowna riders must check in and sign waiver before joining the ride from Geobean Expresso on 1320 Water Street

2nd stopping point is at La Casa Resort which is at the  92K  mark. Support Vehicle Available at the waterfall entrance to upper cottages. This is just past the resort restaurant and store on your left on Barcelona Drive West and Westside Rd. Look for the Green Dodge Caravan.

3rd stopping point is at Hwy 97 and Spallmucheen Golf course entrance which is at the 127K mark.

4th stopping point  at start/finish area of  The People Place parking lot @ 25th Ave/27th Street will be the finish for Vernon starters and the last stop for Kelowna starters before they take their last leg of the route back to Kelowna.

Starting Locations (Vernon and Kelowna)

Vernon Starters: The People Place parking lot @ 34th Street/25th avenue. Look for the Blue Dodge Caravan for the area will we will park

Group C (24K-26K avg.) will start at 6:30 am

Group B (27K-29K avg.) will start at 6:45 am

  Group A (30K ++++) will start at 7am

Kelowna Starters: Meet at the Geobean Expresso located at 1320 Water Street.(across from Law Courts) Vernon riders leave Vernon at 7am and will be arriving between 8:30-9:00am. You must check in with a signed waivers before the ride.

My  Blue Dodge Caravan will be parked by 8:15 in the parking area in front of the Geobean Expresso. You must check in with the driver of my Van who will have a table set up with the registration list of Kelowna riders. Please have this done by 8:30 so you are ready to start with Vernon riders when they arrive. Riders have a choice of joining whatever speed group that they wish once we arrive.
