This site is for those interested in vintage trucks. Our truck is a 1942 Chevrolet 3/4 ton flat deck. One of 1300, three quarter ton flat decks/stake sides built in 1942. The truck was built in April that year, so some of the parts, such as doors are 1941. The grills were not chrome in 1942/43, they were painted turret gray, as was the stainless moulding on the hood sides. The truck was originally Omaha Orange on the body and Maryland black on the fenders. We know from research done, that the truck was always a flat deck sold in the Omaha Nebraska area to a farm. It does not specify whether it was a simple flat deck or stake truck. The only way you could get a new vehicle during the war was for business or in this case farm use. You could not walk into a dealer and buy a new car or truck just because you wanted one.
Most of the information such as the chart below has been gleaned from other sites. We are interested in the trucks so that is the information we have focused on.
I do not profess to be the great knowledge on 1942 Chevy trucks, most of what I know has been from research and trial and error. It has been a great experience rebuilding the truck, a true family project. We have met new friends who also have an interest in "stovebolt" trucks, some rodded, some stock.
The trucks came with one tail/brake light, no signals, heater, defroster or radio. They did come standard with one wiper for the driver, 216 CI 6 cylinder motor and 3 speed standard transmission. This truck has the optional 4 speed with a first gear low enough to pull trees down. We hope you enjoy your time here.
