Options

In this panel you can view and change "DM Net Time & Watch" settings.

In Options panel you can specify:

  1. The path to the folder which keeps the log files. The setup program sets a default folder which you can change any time. Generally speaking there is one log file for each selected user. The log file contains data about when user logged on, logged off and what applications he used. The content of log file can be seen in Activity panel.

One reason to change the location of this folder is if its current location is on a disk with FAT file system. In this case any user can modify and delete log files. In this case the "Restricted access on folder content" field will display "No ( FAT32 )". FAT file system does not support security.

You may want to prevent restricted users to manually modify these log files. In you have one disk with NTFS file system you can create a folder on that disk. DM Net Time & Watch Administrator will change the permissions on the folder - set read only access for all the users and full control for administrators only. The permissions are changed when you save the options ( you can do this using the "Save" or "Save all" buttons from the main toolbar). Once the permissions are changed, the "Restricted access on folder content" field is updated.

The path is relative to remote computer. The Browse button can be used only if you connect to the local computer.

Remark: even if a restricted user cannot change files in this restricted folder, DM Net Time & Watch Administrator can, hence all user activity will be still monitored.

The maximum size for a log file (in MB). If the file becomes bigger, it is renamed with extension .BAK and a new one is created. If a previous .BAK file exists, it will de deleted. At maximum at one time you can have two files (.DAT and .BAK) for each restricted user.

  2. The password that is used when data is about to be saved. By default there is no password. If you set a password, then each time when you are about to save data you must introduce the correct password. This is useful if you leave the computer unattended having DM Net Time & Watch administrator running. A restricted user may try to change data, but if you set a password in the moment he tries to save, he needs to know the password. In order to remove a password you have to introduce no password in the change password dialog (leave both edit boxes empty and press OK).
  3. Task bar notifications. You can choose what kind of notifications about user activity on remote computer you want to receive. Each notification is displayed via a tooltip on task bar.

  4. The computer to connect to. By default when you start "DM Net Time & Watch Administrator" for the first time it will attempt to connect to local computer (the computer where it was launched), using the credentials of the current logged user. If you click on Change button, a dialog will be displayed where you can change the computer.

The communication with the remote computer is encrypted (nobody in the network can see the data exchange).
