Solution:
You think you're ready to start a painting project. Well I
have some tips that you may not have considered that will
help you along the way.
Never paint over an oil base paint with latex. If you do
you will end up with a peeling mess. So how do you know
what paint type you have? Dip a cotton ball in rubbing
alcohol, and then rub the paint in question. If paint
transfers to the cotton, the surface is latex; if it
doesn't, it's oil.
Dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol, and then rub the

surface is latex; if it doesn't, it's oil.
Don't paint directly out of a can; always transfer it to a
bucket or paint pan. This will ensure that your supply of
paint stays fresh and that no bristles or dirt get in
there.
When you pour paint into a paint tray you should only fill
the resivoir about a half of an inch. Too much paint will
overload your roller, which can lead to over spray on you,
your floors and your woodwork.
Paint that is exposed to air for too long will form a skin
on the surface. If you need to take a break put some
plastic wrap over the paint pan to keep it fresh.
Make sure you Keep paint cans closed. To store paint,
tightly close the can and then flip it upside down and
swirl it around. The paint in the can will seal air leaks
and keep the paint fresher over time.
To wash your brushes use a quarter of a cup of liquid
fabric softener and a half-gallon of hot water. The fabric
softener will separate the paint from the bristles so it
will be easy to rinse away! |
