Solution:
Painting your baseboards is a simple way to give them new
life. Well I have a few steps to follow so you'll end up
with a good result.
The first step is to sand. You need to rough up the
surface because the paint won't be able to hold on to the
existing finish. Sand, it lightly and then wipe it down
with a tack cloth.
Vacuum the area thoroughly so that you don't get any dust
or debris in your paint job.
Once the prep work is done, tape off the wall above the
baseboard and put a drop cloth on the floor
If you have carpeting, wedge scraps of cardboard between
the base molding and the carpet, then you won't have to
worry about paint seeping onto the carpet!
Next the priming and then the painting, I recommend using
a paint pad with a handle to paint your molding. You'll
have control and you'll get nice good coverage.
If your moldings have some decorative details you may need
a traditional brush or a sponge brush to get into the
little crevices.
I recommend using a stain blocking sealer primer so that
the wood grain doesn't bleed through. Once you're done and
it's dry use a high gloss enamel finish for the topcoat! |
