HOW TO APPLY
STAINS

1. It
is essential to ensure that the substrate is dry (moisture
content should be less than 12%) before applying the
stain. Failure to do so may result in severe retardation
of the dry-cure time. Adverse weather conditions prior to
full cure of the stain may result in reduced life and
possible discolouration.
2. Ambient and substrate temperature should be
between 10 degrees C and 25 degrees C. Humidity should be
between 30 and 80%. Do not paint in direct sunlight. If
the temperature is too high or the humidity too low, the
stain will be differentially absorbed into the substrate
possibly resulting in an uneven, patchy finish.
3. Keep the stain well mixed during application.
Stain only a few boards at a time and only stop at natural
breaks to maintain a wet-edge. This will assure a uniform,
lap-free, streakless finish.
4. A good quality stain brush is recommended.
Choose from 75 or 100 mm sizes, in pure bristle for oil
finishes. Woodcraft stain brushes are designed to force
the stain into the substrate.
5. Read and follow all directions on the container
including those relating to health and safety concerns. |
