Now that the Jordan EJ10 is completed, I have started on Studio 27's BAR 006 that competed in the early season of 2004. I haven't nailed down which race this car is based on, but I'm thinking it might be Malaysia. I will have to check my references, which by the way is F1 Modeling Magazine (from Japan), Volumes 20, 21 & 22 and probably the forthcoming Vol 23. The resin body is molded to high standards and is very impressive straight out of the box...but...there is a fair amount of clean up required, removing mold lines and small bits of flash, drilling out the locater holes and smoothing the resin surfaces in preparation for the first coat of primer. The white metal parts are typical, requiring lots of clean up, which I dread...there are lots of metal parts. Photoetch parts are minimal and of course are very high quality. As opposed to the Treasure Hunt Jordan, seatbelts are supplied in photoetch, which I may or may not use, I like the look of the aftermarket fabric belts from Studio 27 better. The rims are machined aluminum and the wheel centers are white metal...Too bad they didn't machine the wheel centers like they have done in the past. The tires look very much like Tamiya's F1 tires, which is to say, they look very realistic and not square like earlier S27 offerings. The decals are incredibly nice and are printed by Cartograf. The red sections of decal that surround the cockpit look like they will be very difficult to get perfect, not sure if I will paint that area or try the decals...time will tell!!! My girlfriend gave this model to me as a gift...she picked up at Mr. Craft in Tokyo while she was visiting Japan this past summer. I'm looking very forward to putting a current F1 car in my display case and this is the first Studio 27 F1 model that I will have built...Wish me luck!!! |

The
task of test fitting all of the white metal parts is started...determining
what needs to be reworked or massaged in order to perfectly fit the respective
part. |

I have
concerns about the height of the front wing, I think it may sit too low,
but this will be determined further in the build. All of the body panel
lines have been scribed deeper for allow for paint buildup. I just used
a #11 blade to scribe the panel lines. |

At this
point the main resin body has been 95% cleaned up and the appropriate
locator holes have been drilled using a pin vise. I have to keep in mind
that paint will make the holes slightly smaller, so the drilled holes
are slightly larger than what the part requires to compensate. If the
locator hole is still too tight, it's no problem to re-drill the holes
for the part to fit properly. |

The
exhaust outlets are molded quite shallow, so I drilled them out using
a 9/64" drill bit. The outlets on the real car are carbon fibre,
so I will probably insert aluminum tubing to replicate the actual exhaust
pipes within the CF shrouding. |

The
exhaust outlet on the left has been drilled out...the right side one is
still untouched and it's plainly visible how much better this will look. |
