The purpose of this site
is to help employees and employers to overcome the
needless suffering and tremendous costs associated
with an insidious form of workplace abuse called 'mobbing'.
In recent years much has come
to light about this disturbing phenomenon and its
devastating consequences. Canada has lagged behind
in addressing this issue but awareness is on the rise.
To this end we will provide information and resources
for all concerned: employees and employers, unions,
EAP and health care professionals and most importantly
to the targets of mobbing and their families.
Mobbing, also referred to
as "adult bullying", "workplace bullying",
"psychological harassment", "status-blind
harassment" or just plain "bullying"
is epidemic in Canadian workplaces.

I go to nature to be
soothed and healed,
and to have my senses
put in order.
~ John Burroughs
|
| Mobbing
continues to cost employers countless hours of lost
productivity, medical claims, absenteeism, high staff
turnover, litigation costs and loss of reputation.
Managers have a right to be concerned, very concerned,
as this all gets added up in the final tally of the
bottom line!
The targeted employee, usually
among the employer's best and brightest, is subjected
to systematic harassment, erosion of self-esteem and
reputation, debilitating depression, physical health
deterioration including such serious cardiovascular
consequences as heart attack and stroke, human rights
violations, post-traumatic stress disorder and once
severely disabled - termination.
|
| |
 |
The
damage is not contained to the workplace in which
it occurs. Family and friends of the target are also
mentally and emotionally impacted as they helplessly
watch their loved one being ruthlessly tormented and
broken down each day they go to work, eventually scarcely
resembling the vital person they remember. |
| |
|
|
|
These combined stresses to a target's
work and home life can conspire to leave their mental
and physical health, their finances, and cruelest
of all, their relationships - in ruins.
Some of the worst cases of mobbing
have ended in tragedy. Pushed beyond the breaking
point of any normal human being, some targets succumb
to suicide or homicidal rage, often after years of
pleading with supervisors, managers, human resources
departments, EAP professionals and union representatives
to intervene - all to no avail. In fact these pleas
usually result in severe reprisals from the very authorities
to which they are desperately appealling for help,
as well as from the (original) bullies themselves.
The situation escalates unchecked and with very predictable
results.
Mobbing serves only the depraved
interests of the bullies who perpetrate these outrages
and perhaps those of some amoral and shortsighted
managers who condone it in their workplace as a brutally
effective method of staff reduction. We, as individuals
and as a (civilized) society, cannot continue to allow
these interests to be served - the cost is far, far
too great to bear.
It is
time to say - "Enough
is enough!"
