1:1 SCALE MODELLING IN SMALL SCALE

Before a serious return to small scale modelling took hold in 1985, time was spent on a unique form of motorsport where maximum fuel economy is the goal. Started in 1976 and continuing through until the early 1990's the Shell Canada Mileage Marathon or Fuelathon as it was later called pitted teams of engineers from Shell and Universities and Colleges in a competition to achieve maximum fuel economy. These vehicles shown here were assembled to participate in the Special Class. They had to maintain an average speed of 15 mph over 3 laps of 1.1 mile oval track. The images below record the results of Team Fuel Scrooge.
