Ron and some friends, at Machu Picchu - February 2007
Welcome to my collection of photos from a few corners of the globe. When I first realized I had motor neuron disease - about 10 years ago - I decided I'd better get serious about my 'Things to Do before I Die' list. So, since 1998, I've written that book, married that woman, had another son and daughter, bought a geophysics company, started a new honey farm, and explored a bit of the world. Here you will find a few hundred pictures of my recent travels.

PERU - 2007: Machu Picchu
I was in Peru in early 2007 - working on a project for
the Canadian International Development Agency.
When I wasn't engaged teaching geophysics,
I explored a bit of Lima, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu.

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada: Home
I live here. Close to the Rocky Mountains,
on the edge of the Great Western Prairies.
We share this busy, beautiful city with a million other Canadians.

IRELAND - 2005: Kylemore Abbey
A main reason for the August 2005 Ireland
expedition was so I could attend an international beekeeper's meeting
in Dublin. The meeting was nice - and one of my web sites won bronze
in the world competition. But we were able to head off and away
from the meetings and explore much of the Green Island.

MEXICO: 1999-2005 - In a friend's friend's backyard, near Progresso
I've seen only the Yucatan pensinsula area of Mexico.
This includes Cancun and several areas around Merida -
a charming and interesting city - as well as the
archeological sites south of Cancun.

CROATIA: 1998-2005 - Makarska
Croatia is a gorgeous country with rugged mountains
and tranquil seaside towns and coastlines.
Possibly the best place to enjoy the ocean
in all of Europe. Inexpensive, and unexpected!

BOSNIA - 2005: Mostar
A friend (Laszo) drove the wild roads of
Bosnia - south from Szeged, Hungary
through Sarajevo, to Mostar and along the
Neretva River to the Sea.

DUBROVNIK - 2005: Ron on the Old Wall.
The ancient Croatian republic of Dubrovnik.
First European country to abolish slavery (1418), home of Europe's
oldest pharmacy (1317), UNESCO site of amazing architecture.
The Republic of Dubrovnik once had 5,000 merchant marine
vessels sailing throughout the world. The independent republic
lasted over 500 years, creatively building alliances with stronger
partners. An earthquake followed by a tsunami in 1667 killed a third of the
population and eventually ended the country's independence (1802).
