The Manitoba International Folk Dance Association is a recreational dance club, open to everyone who shares our enthusiasm for folk dancing. For over twenty years our non-profit organization has promoted the folk dances and music of countries and ethnic regions from around the world.

Over the years, MIFDA has built up a repertoire of hundreds of dances from all over Europe and around the globe. We feature a wide variety of dance styles - from circle dances to Scottish country dances, from line dances to mixers.

Weekly Folk Dancing

Our group meets on most Friday evenings from late September to mid-June. Our group members teach two or three dances at the beginning of the evening, followed by requests for newly-taught dances and old favourites. These dances, which range from easy to challenging, accomodate all skill levels.

No previous dance experience is necessary. We welcome everyone, from beginners to experienced dancers.

Dress casually, our group is informal. Wear comfortable clothing and bring soft-soled shoes. A bottle of water is a good idea, too, you will get a workout!

No partner required. Many of the dances are traditional circle, or line dances and if you're a beginner, it's best to partner with a more experienced dancer when one is required.

Membership

The fee per evening is $4 for members and membership is only $5 per year. Drop-ins are welcome, too, and the cost is $5 per evening.
Sign up for monthly-ish email updates of local and regional dance events and information.
