Sailing Lessons
|
March 2007 noticeAfter 20 years of catamaran sailing, we retired the catamaran and sold our 18 foot AMFt to a young couple who will be sailing the AMF at Turtle Lake, Saskatchewan. Reasons? Over the years I had quite a few experienced jib masters. The youngers ones have all moved far away, the older ones, like me, have retired, and are pursuing other interests, and that is just fine. I now sail with Grant Conlin who has a lovely sailing vessel. Manitou Lake is located approximately 70 miles south east of Saskatoon and 4 miles north of Watrous, Saskatchewan. The Waters of Little Manitou Lake are legendary. Early Plains Indians brought their sick to the "Lake of Good Spirit". Fed by underground springs, the shallow saline lake lies in a deep glacial-carved valley. With a mineral content high in sodium, magnesium and potassium, the lake water has been compared to that of the great spas of Europe. The lake has a specific density greater than that of the Dead Sea, so it's impossible to sink.
