Artist Statement

Using a variety of materials, including fabric, papers, wax, and graphite, I explore the subtleties of the common crow, its space and surroundings.

The crow has deftly carved out an existence by adapting to, and in conjunction with, human societies, and has done so largely unnoticed. Familiarity causes us to overlook this sentient creature. My intention with the Crow Series is to challenge unconsidered notions, general indifference or impetuous negativity toward the common crow and consider how this inability to truly see our surroundings parallels human interaction.

Using the crow as a subject, I encourage deeper observation and invite the viewer to question their own boundaries of perception through the appreciation of the subtleties found within another species.
