Shantael Sleight is a Calgary painter who incorporates various materials in her work, ranging from fabrics and wax to graphite and oils. In her work, Shantael focuses on the under appreciated subtleties of the common crow, its space and surroundings and how this parallels human existence. Shantael started her art education at Red Deer College before graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a BFA, majoring in painting. She's spent years researching and observing crow behavior and exhibits her work throughout Alberta. |

"Sleight could be a visual Jane
Goodall of the avians, opening a universe that usually perches and hops
at the periphery of ours, only noticed in particular magnified incidents
of acrobatic flying grace or fights over stray French fries. Our species
chauvinisms challenged by Sleights crow soap opera, played out
in parallel to our lives: how similar yet alien we are, although sharing
this space and time."
