Nell Carvell of Kettering

Kettering has been recognized as one of the most thriving and prosperous Boroughs in the
East Midlands Region.
They continue to benefit from their
position on the A14. This is a major link between
the M1/M6 junction and the A1 giving excellent
cross country communication.
This central location gives Kettering
easy access to all points
of the compass and is within easy reach of
London, Birmingham, Northampton
Leicester and Peterborough
Northamptonshire:The county that my fathers family originates from.
Northamptonshire is a county of central England with Northampton as its county town
The area covers 2,367 square kilometres. Northamptonshire is known as the County of

The Eleanor Cross
When Queen Eleanor died in Lincolnshire in 1290, her husband King Edward I brought her body back to London. The journey took several days, and at each overnight resting place the King erected a large stone cross in the Queen's memory. This priceless monument can be seen in the village of Geddington.

TRIANGULAR LODGE
Built in 1593 by Sir Thomas Tresham
and,like Lyvedon New Bield,
symbolic of his adherence
to the Catholic faith.
The Lodge has
three of everything
(three sides, three floors, etc)
to represent the Holy Trinity.
Although often hailed as a "folly",
Sir Thomas was in deadly earnest
for he had it built at a time
when to be a
Catholic
in Protestant England
could mean imprisonment
or even death

JUST A FEW STATISTICS

Kettering (population 83,877)
The Borough of Kettering is at the heart of England.
80 miles north of London
45 miles west of Cambridge
45 miles east of Birmingham
The Borough owes its earliest prosperity to the lush pasture land
around the Nene and Welland valleys and the ancient fairs at
Kettering and Rothwell. Later it was nationally known
or its plush and silk weaving crafts,
but by the nineteenth century the leather industry was the main industry.
Boot and shoe making is a traditional skill still much in evidence here.
