Meccano Windows Desktop Themes

Tuesday, November 3, 1998: Meccano Windows Desktop Themes Release 1.0 for Windows is now available for downloading. Now you can experience some of the joys of Meccano at your computer!

These themes consist of a multimedia collection of sounds (e.g. winding a Clockwork Motor), colours, icons (e.g. Meccano nuts and bolts), cursors (e.g. a Meccano strip cursor) and background images (e.g. Meccano Instruction Book covers). They do not include screensavers in this release.

Meccano Windows Desktop Themes Release 1.0 includes 5 themes:

• Meccano_1946
• Meccano_1953
• Meccano_1962
• Meccano_1974
• Meccano_1978

This software is "e-mail-ware" and is provided free of charge as long as you send me an e-mail (to meccano@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca) telling me how much you like the themes and your suggestions for improvement.

In order to make use of these themes you need:

1. Windows 95:
   • Microsoft Plus! for Windows, OR
   • a free Theme install program like Freetheme available at http://hjem.get2net.dk/klat/
2. Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 & XP contain theme support at no extra charge
   (but you may have to install it!)

In order to install these themes:

1. download Meccano_Themes.zip (322315 bytes) to a temporary directory
2. using Pkzip for Windows at http://www.pkware.com, Winzip at http://www.winzip.com or any 32 bit unzip program that can handle long file names (e.g. the free Unzip at http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/UnZip.html) unzip the contents of this archive into your themes directory:
   • For Windows 95 with Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95, this is usually c:\program files\plus!\themes (unless you changed it when you installed Microsoft Plus!)
   • For Windows 95 with another theme install program, this varies depending upon where you installed the program
   • For Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP, this is usually c:\program files\plus!\themes (unless you changed it when you installed Windows)
