"The Cannery's historical photographs from the early 1900's provided inspiration for
this painting. European immigrants, Japanese, Chinese, First Nations and others
shared difficult working conditions as well as the prejudice, ethnic and racial
tensions so prevalent in the early 20th century society.
They represent the historical seeds of not only our province's fishing industry
but also of our current multicultural society."
