Margaret
Gunning was born in Chatham, Ontario in 1954. Her family was a musical
one, and though she was raised to be a violinist, many detours and a
certain passion for the written word led to her eventual pursuit of
writing as a vocation.
She began on a modest scale with weekly columns for small-town
newspapers in Alberta, then gradually expanded to dailies such as the
Vancouver Sun, Montreal Gazette and Globe and Mail. She has reviewed a
wide variety of books, both fiction and non-, on every conceivable topic
from birdwatching to brain chemistry.
After many years of attempts and rejections, her first novel BETTER THAN
LIFE was published by NeWest Press in the fall of 2003. In 2005,
Turnstone Press published her second novel MALLORY. Several more
projects are in the works.
Margaret is blessed with a long and happy marriage, grown kids with
marriages and careers of their own, and four adorable grandchildren.
Long walks in the beautiful natural surroundings of Port Coquitlam,
where the salmon spawn practically in her back yard, keep her in
reasonable shape, while music keeps the juices flowing, and a now-quiet
house (with a room of her own) allows her to write undisturbed.
