Pierre Desjardins-Luce Robitaille
The Manitoba 1901 census records state that Pierre Roy dit Desjardins was born on April 15, 1839. It also states that Luce Robitaille was born on Dec. 5, 1845. From a history book of Saint Pierre, Manitoba, the following is written:
Desjardins (dit Roy), Pierre-né a Kamouraska, Quebec; marié en 1862 a Luce Robitaille de St. Pascal, Quebec, partis pour le Lac St. Jean ou ils resident 11 ans; déménagés a Port Arthur et Fort william, sur le Lac Superieur; employé du C.P.R; arrivés a St-Pierre en 1881; fils Johny parti pour Port Arthur en 1898.
The English translation is as follows: Desjardins (dit Roy), Pierre-born in Kamouraska, Quebec; married in 1862 to Luce Robitaille of St. Pascal, Quebec, left for Lac St. Jean where he resided for 11 years; moved to Port Arthur and Fort William, on Lake Superior; employed by the C.P.R.; arrived at St-Pierre in 1881; son Johnny left for port Arthur in 1898.
According to Gerard Chenard, grandson of Pierre, his grandfather came over from Quebec along Lac St. Jean to St. Pierre in Manitoba. The Lac St. Jean is by Saguenay, Hebertville. Grandma Robitaille (his grandma) talked about the Saguenay all the time. On the way, he must have stopped over in Ontario and perhaps stayed there for awhile. Apparently he worked for the railway (C.P.R.), so possibly was why he stayed in Ontario for awhile. Pierre Roy dit Desjardins worked in a silver mine. while the mother and children boarded in school at Port Arthur. Pierre died of throat cancer.

An article in the Liberté dated May 24, 1916 had the following obituary (in French):
La mort vient de frapper a la porte d'une de nos anciennes et estimables familes. Celui qu'elle nous enlevait dans la personne de M. Pierre Desjardins etait un patriote et un chrétien dans la force du mot. Toute la paroisse ressent le deuil de la famille et a tenu a s'y associer. Pendant de nombreuses années, M. Desjardins avait a lui seul par sa voix puissante et riche, et qui en plus était une véritable prière, reussi a rehausser nos offices religieux. D'imposantes funérailles eurent lieu a Saint-Pierre le 15. Une foule nombreuse de parents et d'amis y assistait. Les a s'y rendre en groupe car en lui ils perdaient un member toujours au poste et celui qui en plus avait eu l'honneur d'etre, en 1884, leur premier président.The Town of St. Pierre-Jolys
