Cecile was born on November 22, 1915 in Ste. Amelie, Manitoba. Cécile was the eldest of the girls. Unlike most of her sisters, she never really went out into the world to get a job. Besides helping her mother at home, she at times worked for relatives and friends as a housekeeper. She worked for her cousin Jeanne Tessier in Elm Creek, Manitoba and also for Leon Saquet in Laurier, Manitoba, and to a lesser extent the Coulomb family in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba. She married Albert Letain in 1935 in Ste. Amelie. Albert was born on May 1, 1916 in Laurier, Manitoba, youngest son of Jean Letain and Justine Husson, who had come from Chassepierre, Belgium to Canada in 1892. For three years they lived with Jean, Albert’s dad and brothers Julien and Alphonse in the family’s new house. In 1938 Albert, Cecile and their two sons Ernest and André moved to their new home. Albert purchased a quarter section of partially cleared land from the municipality for $100.00. In 1947 the family moved downtown Laurier. Albert died on Nov. 28, 1987.

  1. Ernest (Buzz)
  2. Mother used to call him "Nénesse" when he was small.

    Spent a short time at the St. Amelie convent. Went to Laurier High School. Trained for work at the CNR in Laurier under Dick Brasher who was then the Station Agent. Married Claudette Houde from Ste. Rose du Lac in 1958?, daughter of Narcisse Houde & Sylvia Hamelin from Ste. Rose du Lac.

    Ernest has a real interest in golfing. He lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

     

     

  3. Andre
  4. Used to be called "Skeezik" then "Gromyko" and later Gabby, because kids used to dress up as cowboys and he wore one of grandpa’s old hats, and was christianed Gabby Hayes.

    Spent some time at the Juniorat de la Sainte famille run by Oblates in the early 1950’s. Married Stephanie Stein, daughter of Jacob Stein from Germany and Veronica Czaitaiilo from Lvov Ukraine. Went to University of North Dakota for three semesters, taking Wildlife Management. Moved to B.C. in 1967 and spend two years at College in Forestry Technology. Begin working for the British Columbia Forest Service in 1969 where he stayed until his retirement in 1997. Lives in Nanaimo, B.C. Has various hobbies and interests, among which are genealogy and writing, as well as reading on subjects such as computers, philosophy, religion and the paranormal.   5. Joseph (Jos)
  6. Left school earlier. Mechanic at heart. Took a course in auto-mechanics in Winnipeg in the early 1960s. Married Florence Gobeil from South Junction, Manitoba. One of the largest families in Manitoba. Currently lives in Laurier and works for the McCreary municipality as mechanic to the school buses. Florence is an ardent cook, with many family members coming together to enjoy meals.

  7. Patrice (Pat)
  8. Went to Laurier High School. Married Anne Guillas in????. Took up teaching, first went to teachers college and taught low grades in small towns around Manitoba, such as?????, etc.. Later went to the University of North Dakota and took up physical education. After graduating taught the subject at Shilo in Manitoba, the went to Dauphin and taught there until retired. Anne took up nursing and worked for a long time as a practical nurse mostly in Dauphin. Was an energetic person. They have a cabin in the ----area. They enjoy sports, are avid collectors and enjoy home canning and cooking. Pat used to be in the Laurier Hockey team being one of the better players of his own time. Taught physical education in Dauphin where he retired in the late 1990’s.

  9. Arthur (Art)
  10. Worked for the CNR in electronics. Moved to British Columbia in 1998?. Married first Lilian Bouclin. Had three daughters. Split up and later remarried to Ruth????. Art always loved to live in B.C. He finally moved there in 1997?.

  11. Adèle

    Only girl in the family. Married Carl Cherak in 1965? Lives in Winnipeg.Adèle and Carl were well known for their love of western music. Carl joined they U.S. army in ??and went off for a while to Vietnam. They lived in Nashville for awhile.

  13. Lionel
  14. Used to be called "Gros Nomme" meaning big man in French. Later became known as Whalley.

    Went to University of North Dakota in the mid 1960s. Graduated in Physical therapy. Married Patty Miller also who went to University there where he met her.

    Moved to Oregon in 1966?. Killed in car accident on way to Portland in 198?,

    Lionel liked a good time. He was an extravert and outspoken with a deep sense of independence. When young he had a close shave with life when first swallowing a candy and almost choking on it and another time drinking a bottle of iodine. Dad gave him milk to drink and he recovered.

    Has one daughter Tracy, now a PHD in microbiology. She spent some time learning at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

    Also had a dog named Purple.

  15. Raymond
  16. First married Claire Bouchard in????. From this marriage was born Brenda. After first being married they lived at the west end of town still in town, near Claire’s parents. The marriage split in????and Raymond remarried to ???????????. From this marriage were born two sons:

    Raymond likes farm life, peace and quite.

  17. Denis
  18. Lives in Winnipeg. Works for Manpower. Denis likes the Arts and reading. Also him and his wife Jacquie like pets at home.

  19. Frederic (Fred)

Married Vera Kisley from Brandon in 1977. Works as an accountant in Dauphin, Manitoba. He is also organizer for the Dauphin Country Fest. Among his many hobbies are reading, listening to country music.
