To Mary Dick

Mary was the daughter of Isaac Dick and Lena Ginter. Her family sailed out of Russia. The parents lived in Southern Manitoba-East Reserve, near Steinbach.

Mary once used to be married before meeting Alex. She lived in North Dakota, though originated from Southern Manitoba. When she was in North Dakota, she had a terrible mishap. Once a tornado came over the place where she used to live. She was then pregnant and hid inside a well and when the storm came through, she lost her baby. Mary used to work cooking in logging camps. It also seems like Mary and Alex had split up for some time, before he drowned. Mary never kept track of the Desjardins family after that.

The B.C. death index file states that Mary Desjardins died on June 8, 1963 in Central Saanich at the age of 82. This puts her birth around 1881. She died in a nursing home in Saanich, near Victoria. She was cremated and her ashes cast into the sea at a spot which she could see from where she resided in Saanich.
