James Mallendine and Hannah Edghill

James was baptised at St Mary, Whitechapel on 7 Oct 1785.

Hannah was born on 9 April 1789 - the daughter of Jasper and Eleanor Edghill. She was baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 10 May 1789.

James and Hannah were married by banns on 3 June 1810 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green. James' occupation was listed as weaver in the parish register and they were living on Sclater Street in Bethnal Green at the time of their marriage. They were still living there in 1815 but by 1816, they had moved to Mount Street also in Bethnal Green.

In early 1819, the family suffered a double tragedy with the deaths of two of their children. Three month old Martha died on 10 January followed by 2 1/2 year old Peter a week later. The family likely moved to Shoreditch as all their remaining children were baptised at St Leonard's.

The family has not be located in the 1841 Census but there is a possible match for James - living on his own on the north side of Conduit Street in Bethnal Green.

James: born on 8 March 1811 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 14 February 1813.

Rebecca: born on 16 January 1813 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 14 February 1813. She married William Tomkins in 1833.

Isaac: born on 9 January 1815 at Sclater Street, Bethnal Green and baptised at St Matthew, Bethnal Green on 5 February 1815.

Peter: born on 17 July 1816 at Mount Street and baptised at St Matthew, Bethnal Green on 4 August 1816. He died on 17 January 1919 and was buried at Gibraltor Row Burial Ground.

Martha: born on 28 October 1818 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 15 November 1818. She died one week before her brother Peter and was also buried at Gibraltar Row.

Hannah: born on 6 July 1820 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 23 July 1820. She had a daughter, Susanna, born in Dec 1847 and died on 13 May 1848. Hannah's occupation was listed as Horse Hair Weaver.

William: born on 10 February 1825 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 27 February 1825.

Martha: born on 18 June and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 4 July 1827.

Mary Ann: born on 14 July 1829 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 3 August 1829. She married Benjamin Fosh.

Joseph: born on 9 February 1833 and baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 5 March 1833.
