Edward Mallandaine and Louisa Townsend

By the time Edward arrived in Victoria Harbour in 1858, he had already travelled the world. He came to the colony to make a new start and develop his career as an architect. He became acquainted with Louisa Townsend through Mrs. Rhodes, a mutual friend. They frequently met at choir practices at St John's in Victoria and later married there on 1 September 1866.

Following the wedding, Edward and Louisa moved to their first home on View Street. They later moved to the family home on Simcoe Street where they remained for the rest of their lives. Edward died on 4 April 1905 followed by Louisa on 28 September 1925.




Edward: born on 1 June 1867 in Victoria. He married Jean Ramsey in Nanaimo on 13 August 1904. They moved to Creston where they remained until their deaths. Edward died on 3 August 1949 and is buried at Creston Village Cemetery.

Frederick: born on 24 August 1868. He was very active in athletics and a member of the James Bay Athletic Association. Frederick drowned in a boating accident on 11 November 1895. He is buried in the family plot at Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.

Louisa: born on 21 December 1869 in Victoria. She married William Corson on 21 December 1888. Following his death, she married Walter Burrough in Vancouver on 18 August 1899. Louisa died on 1 December 1951 in Vancouver, BC.

Harriet: born on 14 October 1871 in Victoria. She married Stanley Lawrie on 25 September 1907. They had one son, Stanley Westgarth Lawrie, but sadly, he died of pneumonia in 1917 at age 7. Harriet and Stanley later adopted a baby girl. Harriet died on 14 October 1936 and is buried at Ross Bay.

Charles: born on 20 May 1875 in Victoria. Charles worked as a Printer in the provincial government for many years. He never married and died on 11 November 1940 in the family home on Simcoe Street.
