
Edward Mallandain and Alice Seddon

Edward's birth record has not been found but we know he was born abt 1796. According to his nephew, Edward worked as a school teacher before taking a position with the railway. Family notes indicate he worked as a Station Master with the Manchester & Leeds Railway.
Edward married Alice Seddon in the early 1820's. The family lived in the Prestwich area of Lancashire for many years. Alice died on 4 March 1879. After her death, Edward moved to Hackney, London with his daughters Emma and Sarah. It is possible they moved to the cottage in Ely Place, Globe Road, Mile End left to him by his father.
In the 1881 census, Edward's birthplace is recorded as Hartford, Hertfordshire. His occupation is listed as "Retired Railway". His daughters' were not working and listed as being "At Home".
Edward died on 1 July 1892 and is buried in Abney Park Cemetery. In his will, Edward's address is listed as 9 Somerfield Grove, Stoke Newington Road, Hackney. Probate was granted on 9 December 1892 with effects totalling £1599 left to his daughter Sarah Ann, a spinster.

John: born abt 1823 in Prestwich, Lancashire. He married Elizabeth Sibbald in 1857.
George: born abt 1827 in Prestwich. He married Sarah Jackson on 3 February 1848. Following Sarah's death in 1872, George married widow Hannah Hoyle in 1878.
Sarah Ann: born on 26 June 1829 in Westwich, Lancashire. She never married and died on 28 September 1917 in Brighton.
Mary: no record of her birth has been found. She married Josiah Stone at St Pancras on 5 May 1855. Family notes indicate that following Josiah's death, Mary remarried to a Mr. Phillips. She had no children from either marriage. Mary was also mentioned in her grandfather's will. She was the beneficiary of the majority of his property.
Eliza: born abt 1831. She died at Hebdon Bridge, Yorkshire on 19 November 1845.
Edward: born abt 1833. He worked as a railway clerk. Edward died on 8 November 1868 in Rochdale, Manchester. Probate on Edward's will was not granted until 27 December 1892 with effects totalling £809 going to his sister, Sarah Ann.
Alice Esther: born 6 September 1835 in Prestwich, Lancashire. She died on 25 October 1877 in West Hackney, London.
Emma Anna: born on 17 November 1841 in Hebdon Bridge, Yorkshire. She never married. Emma died on 9 November 1907 and is buried in Abney Park Cemetery.
