Detective Conan Theatrical Movies

There's been a theatrical movie release each year since 1997. The movie comes out close to or during
Golden Week (week long holiday which usually falls on the later part of April). Video/DVD rental version
of the film comes out 6 months later and then the commercial DVD (LD)/VHS comes out a few months
after that (VHS versions stopped in 2006). A colour film comic version (2 parts) comes out about the same
time the rental version does.

Price, product code, exact release dates to rent/buy, see here.
2 Trading Card Collections cover the first 5 films in detail. Scans here.

1997: The Time Bomb Skyscraper

1998: The Fourteenth Target

1999: The Last Wizard of the Century

2000: Captured in Her Eyes

2001: Countdown to Heaven

2002: The Phantom of Baker Street

If were lucky enough to be in Japan in late April 2002 during Golden Week, you could have seen
the film on the big screen. More movie info can also find at Shonen Sunday (Japanese 'site)

WHF 2002 Movie promo postcard

Conan and the gang are in 19th century London (the heyday of his hero Sherlock Holmes)
solving a case. Not possible? It is if you've gotten stuck inside the world's best virtual reality
game, Cocoon (borrowing from those Trek holodeck gone awry episodes me thinks ^^),
that's gone haywire. Deliberately? By who and why? Was it the doing of Edogawa Ranpo
(top mystery writer award) winner Nozawa Hisashi who wrote the stories used in Cocoon or
perhaps it's the doing of the AI computer Noah's Ark? This mystery in reality
awaits Conan and company should they escape the game by
solving its challenges. If they fail, the game could be over, permanently.
Kudo Yuusaku (Shinichi (Conan) 's dad) may unknowingly have the key to solve everything. . .

Info blurb written on the front of the movie promo shitajiki:
"Keys are, London a hundred years ago, Noah's Ark, two rings, wine and Sherlock Holmes.
With London of a hundred years ago as the stage, a Game in which fifty people risk their lives
has started. Is this reality or. . . "

2004: Ginyoku no Kijyutsushi = Magician with Silver Wings

And we all know that Magician means Kaitou Kid ^__^
Movie will come out during Golden Week of course... April 17th to be precise.
Shonen Sunday #1 (2004) has a foldout poster of the movie artwork (can see it on the webpage too). In English above
the Japanese title it says, "Magician of the Silver Sky". Asked a Japanese friend why the difference in translation
and it looks like it's another "poetic licence" thing since he can't see how get silver sky from ginyoku (JP title reads
"Ginyoku no Kijyutsushi").

Story section on webpage doesn't have much yet. Kid challenging Conan with puzzles/tricks to solve. Why (what purpose)
one wonders... . Also, Conan &Co. on a plane with murder to solve (hello ep162) and then the plane is bombed or something
and is out of control....

Keywords this time are: "26 words", "a landing strip" and "me... Kaitou Kid."

From Shonen Sunday 11 (2004): Some 8th movie story/plot details:
Popular Japanese actress named Maki Juri visits Kogoro. She asks Korogo to protect her jewelry called, "Star Sapphire"
(Jewel of Destiny) from Kaitou Kid. She tells him that she got an announcement from Kaitou Kid.
Next day, Conan, Ran, Kogoro and Shonentantei-dan visit the theatre place. Kogoro suspects that Kid will come on the last day
of her theatre show to steal it. Conan doesn't think so. Anyway, with his own reasoning, Conan waits for Kid to show up...
but it isn't Kid who shows up, it's... Shinichi!! Of course, Conan knows he is not the real Shinichi. But then Conan would
have to reveal his secret to let others (Ran etc...) how he knows it's really Kid. And Kid knows that... He asks Ran to spend
private time with him... Anyway, the show starring that actress begins. How can Conan protect her jewelry from Kid
who is disguised as Shinichi? Somehow this gets to that plane hyjacking...

Aiuchi Rina is doing the film's song, " DREAM X DREAM " (CD out April 8th, 2004)

2 clear card sets (3 different ones)are one of the common theatre only goods released each year: Set 1, 1a; Set 2, 2a; Set 3 has the 2 poster's
artwork on them

2005: Suiheisenhyou no Inbou = Strategy Above the Depths

In theatres (Japan only) April 9th, 2005. ZARD is doing the theme song.

Murder mystery aboard the luxury cruise ship Aphrodite on its maiden voyage... relates somehow to the sinking of a cargo ship
15 years ago in the North Atlantic where the captain and one crewmember perished and the death of a ship builder designer who
has a heart attack while driving. 2 weeks after this death, Conan, Ran, Mori and company are at the launch of the Aphrodite.

The resolution of this caper will be accomplished not by Conan but by Mori Kogoro?!
And one of the crisis this time around entangling Conan (Shinichi) and Ran will lead to ... have to wait and find out (argh!!)

Sonoko and the Shoonen Tanteidan are on board for this original (not in the TV anime or manga) story that will apparently have
a climax scene with more action than the best Hollywood movie around.

One of the movie's posters

2006: Tantei-tachi no Chinkonka = Requiem of the Detectives *OR*
= The Private Eyes's Requiem
which is what can see the title written as on the official movie page.

In theatres (Japan only) April 15th, 2006.

10th Conan movie out = it's a BIG deal which makes the movie extra special with an all star cast: DCN regulars, semi-regulars (Heiji, Kid)
plus ... don't know at this point. HOWEVER, not every single chara ever will be in it which some fans are assuming from the image of the clearfile
(special present if you pre-order your tickets and are one of first 10 people at a theatre location to buy them come March 4th) (it was also available
at the World Hobby Fair back in Feb) on the 10th Ann webpage (can't wait for the goods section to be active ^^;). OK, I stand corrected. Apparently
ALL those characters ARE in the movie!

This 10th movie for some fans seems to be the sign from the Heavens that the series will END ... sorry, I don't buy it. No, not even
with the "Sayonara Conan" seen in the teaser ... not called teaser for nothing.

Maybe this is the last movie, maybe (that's MAYBE, ok?!) the last season for the anime (bloody well doubt it!!) but
the manga is NOT ending until Gosho wants to end it and from all indications that is not anytime soon.

From the Story section of the official movie page (and help from a Japanese friend & DCN fan):

Some unknown man who knows Conan is in fact Kudo Shinichi lures Conan and the others (Mori, Ran, Tanteidan...) to Yokohama.
This man takes Ran and the Tanteidan as hostages. He gives Conan a 12 hour time limit in which to solve a case. If it is not solved within
that time, bombs attached to the hostages will explode.... To thwart this villain Conan has help from Heiji, Kaitou Kid, Hakuba and ....

I wonder if the first movie baddie (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th ones ^^) could be back for revenge... mind you there's so many possibilities with people
with a grudge against Shinichi ^^; Somehow I don't think it would be a BO member ... they just kill and be done with it. Also,
original (not manga based) BO content has never been done ... it's always come from Gosho. Now that the longer trailer is up, it doesn't look like it
could be a previous movie baddie ... oh well. Villain this time definitely not mentally well and his anguish (reason to strike out (back?)) seems to stem
from the loss of an important person (single frame shot of a woman seen in the trailer) which he says "Kudo-kun" understands all too well.

No reset button on this "game" if time runs out....

Definitely CANNOT wait to see this !!!!!!!! Argh, want to go to Japan ~_~

Ok, if you do *NOT* mind major spoilers, go here

Movie song will be by B'z, CD for the song, " Yuruginai Mono Hitotsu " (One Unshakeable Truth) will be released April 12th which is also when the soundtrack
CD also is released for sale.

10th movie promo clearfile (NFS item) Front and back

And maybe because it's the 10th one it's special ... the movie rental came out Sept 8, 2006 which is less than 6 months ... yatta!

2007: Konpeki no Hitsugi (Jyorii Rojyaa) = Coffin (Jolly Roger) of the Deep Blue literally *OR*
= Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure
which is what can see the title written as on the official movie page.

In theatres (Japan only) April 21th, 2007.

cover of the movie programme (artwork also used on a poster and some other goods)

Shonen Sunday V1 Promo movie poster ... special thanks to knightusmaximus for the scan!!

Translation (by a Japanese friend with some English adjustments by me) of the Story page posted on the official page (as of Dec 10, 2006):

The Isle of Koumi, a beautiful island in the Pacific Ocean.

On the island, people pass an old legend down from generation to generation that there was the Seabed Palace, an ancient ruin at the bottom of the sea, where
the treasure of 2 female pirates, Anne Bonnie & Mary Reed (who really existed 300 years ago), was left.

When Conan and his friends visit Koumi Island while on vacation, they meet some treasure hunters. There was something suspicious about them.

One of the hunters is killed by sharks when he went to search the Seabed Palace. Conan thinks it was a murder and starts an investigation together with Haibara.
The murder of the hunter and the treasure legend are connected according to Conan's reasoning.

What on Earth is the secret about the Jolly Roger?

And the stage of the climax is the Seabed Palace.

It was the last thing the sailors in the 18th century wanted to see. It means the flag of a skull that pirates flew. Notorious pirates traveled the ocean
in search of treasures under the Jolly Roger. And now, there are people who search for treasures all over the world. People call them "Treasure Hunters".

So will there be more One Piece or Pirates of the Caribbean references in the movie I wonder? Or maybe Indiana Jones or Relic Hunter? ^^;; But no,
there aren't any.

2008: Full Score of Fear (the Kanji reads Senritsu no Gakufu)

Movie flyer from Shonen Sunday issue

Other movie poster artwork

In theatres (Japan only) April 19th, 2008.

Translation (by a Japanese friend with some English adjustments by me) of the Story page posted on the official page (as of Nov 27, 2007):

Serial murders involving all kinds of musicians have happened. All the victims are from a Music School
led by a famous pianist. Conan and company (i.e. Conan-tachi) have been invited to a opening concert
of the Music Hall built by the pianist. The biggest attraction of this concert is the world famous violin called "Stradivarius" and a special appearance of
a singer who has perfect pitch.

However, several suspicious incidents begin to happen right before the live concert. And on the day
of the concert, the concert hall that Conan and company have visited explodes and the place is engulfed in flames!!

New movie will have classic music like Ave Maria, Amazing Grace etc. as BGM

It's a mixture of suspense and classical music which is a complete movie original.

Hmm... a Phantom Kid of the Opera might we get? (wishful thinking)

2009: The Raven Chaser (Shikkoku no Tsuisekisha)

Official Movie webpage (from which see title is written as The raven Chaser instead of Jet Black Chaser...)

Out in April of course, exact date unknown yet. Shounen Sunday issue (last week Oct 2008) shows Conan VS Gin in the announcement for the 13th movie.
So looks like a showdown between Conan and Gin or maybe all of the Black Org ??

ANN also posted a news snippet

Tsuisekisha translates usually as pursurer but like some of the other movies, after the title in Katakana is the meaning want: CHU E SAA (=Chaser). Now,
this could be a double meaning since chaser also means a drink one has after having a drink of hard (gin, bourbon...) liquor, something to help
wash away/down the taste...

Dec 4: Official movie site & Shounen Sunday Issue 1 shows movie will be out April 18, 2009.

Credit to magicbulletgirl for the scan!!

Translation (by a Japanese friend with some English adjustments by me) of the Story page posted on the official page (as of Dec 4, 2008):

There are six serial murder cases over a wide area centred around Tokyo. Megure, detectives from other prefectures, and Kogoro join a big meeting
to discuss the cases. Conan happens to see one of the detectives coming out of the meeting and going inside a sports car.

"That car is Gin's."

Someone from the Black Org. must have snuck inside the meeting and took off in the car driven by Gin. Were those murders done by the Black Org.?

Hair Trigger!

If Gin finds out that Kudo Shinichi is alive, he's gonna kill not only Shinichi but everyone related to him. Even though Conan knows how dangerous
this is going to be, he is going to investigate this matter alone.

13th in the series. . . Fated Death Game has now begun.

April 19th: Conan LJ comm 2 people posted their summary of the movie. Plenty of spoilers!!
Summary 1, Summary 2

These 3 images (promo art for the film plus the poster image further up) are also jigsaw puzzles.
If interested in buying one, please see my page

2010: Tenkuu no Rosuto Shippu = Lost Ship in the Sky

Yes, it was announced at end of the 13th movie. See? Series ain't over!!

Dec 5, 2009: Shounen Sunday Issue 2-3 has Gosho art promo poster and a promo ad for the 14th Movie. VERY interesting images + title learn.
Images are excellent teases (ie, shouldn't take at face value): Ran about to kiss Kid, Ai about to get slapped, a group of men in black (but not the Black Org)
near a bio hazard sign, the stage for the 14th movie is an airship (blimp).

The text on the Gosho promo art reads Tsukamatta!? = To have been caught/captured or grabbed hold of... so not sure if referring to Kid or Ran oO

And importantly, Kaitou Kid is a key figure in this film! ^_^

Film will hit theatres in Japan April 17, 2010.

Dec 9, 2009:
Story page translation. Graciously done by kagedreams!

Hijacked by a mysterious terrorist!

Multi-millionaire Suzuki Jiroukichi determined to have a showdown with Kid the Phantom Thief - who targets jewels throughout the world - sends Kid
a challenge: The jewel "The Lady of the Skies" is kept aboard the world's largest blimp the Bell Tree 1st (Note: Literal meaning of Suzuki). Steal it if you can.
The time limit is the six hours it takes to get from Tokyo to Osaka.

Also on board are Kogorou and Ran who are invited by Jiroukichi as well as Conan and the rest of the Detective Boys. Will he be able to get it?
Or will he be caught? Just as the battle of wits begins in the skies, the mysterious terrorist group "The Red Siamese Cat" attacks the blimp.

What was the aim behind the hijacking? And what about the showdown between Conan and Kid?!

July 23, 2010: 14th movie rental DVD came out Oct 8, 2010. Sale version (DVD and Blu-ray) came out November 17, 2010.

2011: Chinmogu no 15 fun (kuootaa) = Quarter of Silence (instead of 15 minutes of silence)

The quarter = 15 use is a reference to this being the 15th movie. Snow is also associated with silence.
Movie will be out April 16, 2011 (in theatres in Japan)

This time it'll be? December 3, I learned more about the 15th movie. Murder, mayhem, a subway train and a mountain of snow from looking at the
official page I see. After watching the trailer, add Ran in dire need of help, pleading on her cellphone for Shinichi to help her. Also see the Detective Boys
possibly going over a cliff (on the mountain) in a snowmobile (unh, they're not old enough to drive... but then the trailer, or teaser, of previous movies
have been misleading before). And Conan's modified skateboard gets a new mode as a powered up snowboard (Conan with Ai hanging on tight seen
taking off down the mountain to try to prevent something bad from happening (with little time left of course)).

Story blurb from ANN:
"The story begins with a threat against the Tokyo governor, but Conan's quick thinking prevents any fatalities when a subway tunnel is blown up. Conan learns there may be a connection to a village that was relocated for the construction of a dam, and he races to stop the criminal before the next attack."

Translation (by Japanese online friend, his English isn't A-1) of the story page (from official site as seen Dec 4, 2010):

Madness approaching a snow field.
Who breaks the silence?

15 seconds before the bombing of a subway!

"I'm going to punish the administration of Tokyo for its four years of arrogance."
One day in December, a threatening letter was sent to Asakura who has been reelected as the Governor of Tokyo (Tohto).
The next day, a new subway tunnel that has just opened was bombed!

But thanks to Conan, who knew about the threatening letter from Kogoro, no one got hurt and tragedy was prevented.

Truth is in snow country...

Was the crime planned by someone who has a grudge against Mr. Asakura?
Is there anybody who holds a grudge against Mr.Asakura from building a dam when he was the minister of land?

In order to chase the culprit, Conan and friends head out to the dam built in Niigata Prefecture.

Tragedy that happened 8 years ago...

Large numbers of people gathered at the commemorative ceremony of the 5th anniversary of the relocation of Kitanosawa Village (relocated in order so the dam could be built). Is the culprit among them?

As Conan starts investigating, a mysterious dead body is found in the snow field.
Is this related to the bombing incident? To the accident that hurt people of the village 8 years ago...

Past and present are intertwined which will lead to a future catastrophe!

2012: 11 Hitome no Sutaraikaa = The Eleventh Striker

Title for the 16th movie learned in Shonen Sunday 52 issue which has the usual promo art (manga sketch style) poster.
Movie will be out April 14, 2012

Official Movie webpage launched now (Nov 25). From poster (image up on the front page) and title, the movie is soccer related...
sort of. ANN has translated the story blurb from the site. There's a short trailer available to watch as well on the page.

Mori (thus Conan) is given a challenge to solve within a time limit or else more (a car explodes outside the Mori office after
an initial ominous phone call) will explode. Of course there's more than one challenge to solve which leads to the threat
of blowing up the sports stadium where a soccer match is happening. Game on!
