Ok, here's an idea of what the story is about!
Mega City Television is part of a powerful media empire run by
Jack Douglas who controls most of the
television braodcasts shown in Japan through his private satellite
network. One of his key personnel
(not sure what his title is!) is killed for information he had. What
secrets had he known and who didn't
want him sharing them with whom?
His execution was meant to look as a suicide, however, Asagi
Sayaka, a Mega City News announcer,
saw the murder happen. Fearing for her life, she leaves an XYZ
message on the board in Shinjuku
Station.
Short on jobs yet again for some time (with the Japanese economic
recession not helping either), Kaori
is willing to take the offer even if it is from a beauty. Ryo's
reaction is typical. :)
Of course, no protection job is ever typical for City Hunter.
Keeping Sayaka safe starts to become
a challenge when a newscast airs showing Ryo kidnapping Sayaka. Now
the police (enter Saeko)
are after Ryo. To add to the chase, some thugs decide Ryo will be
worth a hefty reward if caught.
Someone else also wants a piece of Ryo: Umibozu. Seems he's had
enough of being called Umi-chan...
And Kaori's hammer (as always) isn't far away to keep Ryo from
mishandling their client. ^^
The guy the killer works for created the fake newscast. Was this
his way of just getting Ryo
out of the way in order to get to Sayaka? Or is he interested in
eliminating Ryo too? Why?
What's the reason for this deadly game? Watch and see!
Now that I've watched the whole
thing, I suppose I could put up a review... Nah.
Safe to say you can understand most of what's going on even without
knowing much Japanese (like me).
I enjoyed it very much. I think it's far better than "Good-bye My
Sweetheart" and "Secret Service".
The opening song is crap (unless buzzing guitars and grating voices
appeals to you) but the sequence
to go with it was fabulous (lots of manga pic brought to "life").
My three wishes:
1) This had better not be the last one.
2) Don't take 2 years to get the next one out.
3) ADV had better NOT have the licence to this!
Ok, I did a mini-review. ^^
*********************
Well, it's Aug 2004 as I type this... 1) & 2) have proven false.
Instead of more City Hunter, Tsukasa Hojo gives fans Angel Heart... I
still
can't forgive him for killing Kaori!!! -_____- So much for "City
Hunter Forever" at the end of manga 35. 3) hasn't been proven
false... yet.
For douijnshi... I've got lots and not enough time to get them all
up... have a few listed
here
at the moment.
IF you are a fan of Asuka/Jade's gorgeous
doujinshi... this is her (Asuka)
webpage which has
a nice gallery & other goodies. Go look!
(Yes, she gve me permission to put a link to her
page (Japanese only)).
