Hi there. Yes, I do update this site more that once a year.
Today's
news is as follows: My new book is for sale now.
It's early, actually! The official release date is Wednesday, February
16th,
but if anyone wants an advance copy, please visit me at Legends Comics
& Books
(633 Johnson Street in Victoria, BC). If you'd like it "drawn in"
for "your sister", then come
and see me when I'm actually there (Wednesdays through Sundays). If you'd
prefer not
to see me in person (but would still like to read my latest graphic novel),
come by the
comic shop on Mondays or Tuesdays and chat with Lloyd. He's awesome, and
you'll
like the time you spend in his company.
So, the book's called The Magic Teeth Dailes Volume #2 and
it's the continuation of my cartoon-a-day project starring The Perogy
Cat
and Cute Elk. This volume features 100 more cartoons plus a
beautiful full-colour cover with glossy French flaps. It also
chronicles the rise of young superstar Leeroy Stagger during
his trek from Mill Bay hobo-teen to world-weary rock star.
It's my magnum-opus and I could use the support.

The new Leeroy Stagger record will be released by
Boompa Records on Tuesday February 22nd. The more copies
you buy, the more royalties I'll get... Coincidentally, that release
date is also my birthday AND the evening of the Monday
Magazine Awards (one of which, I've been nominated for).
Last year, I won the "M" Award for "Most Interesting Artwork
In An Alternative Medium" for my comic book, and this year
I'd like it again. I'm working my ass off on this project...
and I want more hoopla. More Hoopla!
"Hoopla" reminds me of "Boompa"
Later skaters.
-Gareth.

Hi everyone. It's been twenty-four years since John Lennon died, and
today, he would have been sixty-four.
I'm just mentioning this to show that I'm alert and quite aware of
what's going on the world (dig?).
Anyways - My new book
is out: "Magic Teeth Dailies Volume One"
and it's available in Victoria at Legends Comics, or
through this
website.
It's $10.00 plus $3.00 postage. I've only got a couple first
printings left, so either race to reserve your copy, or wait for
the new edition. This is what the cover looks like:

Thanks for visiting. More action is on the horizon with new comics, books,
Leeroy Stagger news, The Rusty Willoughby Tribute Album (soon)
and the Semi-Louise record. It's a great life.
Cool Beans! -Gareth.

My
new book, Magic Teeth Dailies Volume One will be available in
mid-November. It'll be the first 100 days of my daily comic strip,
compiled into a handsome book with full colour covers and flaps.
It features stories, cartoons, jokes, and autobiographical snippets, torn
from my life between
July 27th and November 5th of this year. It's volume one of a series of
books which will
come out every 100 days for the rest of my life. It's a huge project.
I hope you enjoy it.

Leeroy Stagger news: He's touring again.
Here are his dates:
As for the record, "Beautiful House" - it is done, but we're
looking
into release dates and deciding if it'll be released by the fine folks
over at Boompa Records in Vancouver.
They're indy like Magic Teeth, but they have a staff of professionals
so adept at their work that they make me ashamed to be in the
music business. Lucky I have comics to fall back on.
Boompa are great people. They'll treat the album well.
You can trust them.
Email me if you have any questions or need any records.
My address isinfo@magicteeth.ca
Thanks! - Gareth

Leeroy Stagger
news:
The video for the new single,
"Just In Case" was filmed in Victoria
over a three day period this past weekend.
It was directed by the Kymera Pictures out of Vancouver, BC and promises
to be aired constantly on the Much Music station.
It's "World Premiere" will be this Sunday (September
26th) at 8 PM, Pacific time
on the show "Going Coastal".
http://www.muchmusic.com/tv/goingcoastal
Watch for appearances by The
Perogy Cat as he worms
his way through his first rock video.
Leeroy's new album will be released sometime in October and until
then you can distract yourself from the existing void the record will
fill by visiting this excellent fan-site dedicated to Leeroy:
http://members.shaw.ca/leeroyfansite/
.
Semi-Louise's new album is forthcoming. You must check it out.
The Rusty Willoughby Tribute Album "Obsequious
and Dumb"
is also nearing completion (some bands are slower than others).
Thanks for your patience, dear potential listener.
Later. -Gareth.

Thursday June 24, 2004:
Less than a week until Spider-Man 2 opens... This is just a reminder
to those who aren't counting down the seconds.
Oh, and tonight Leeroy
Stagger will be opening for
Lindy at the Central Bar in Victoria.
He arrived safely back from Toronto the other day, so this will be the
first of three shows
heralding his triumphant return from the big city.
Danny Michel is still putting the final touches on Leeroy's second record,
and from
all accounts, it's sounding brilliant, and, to wrap up this
newsupdate, it must be noted that Jesse Lee has agreed to
do a cover of "The Great Valediction" for the upcoming
Rusty
Willoughby Tribute Album.
It's filling out very well... Very well indeed!
OK, talk to you soon. PS- While you're here, check out the
newly revamped site (Rob Nesbitt's getting good at this computer stuff),
oh, and buy a Perogy Cat doll.
gareth.

Leeroy Stagger and his Sinking Hearts (Tolan, Leigh, Luke)
and I are leaving for Toronto on Thursday for the North By Northeast
Festival Showcase at the Rivoli.
The newly scheduled time is Midnight o Friday Night.
If their performance at Steamers this past Saturday was anything to go
by,
it'll surely be worth the trip.
Saturday actually saw two performances by Leeroy and the band.
The first being an incredibly surreal concert on the field behind
Spectrum High School in Victoria. There were more band members
than audience members in attendance but the mosquitos
were out in full force. It was just like Woodstock with all the
tarps and scaffolding and juice box containers littered about.
I got to drive my car on the field (someone threw a frisbee at me though)
but I was too scared to do doughnuts, however, as there were
some teachers monitering the event and they had frowns on their faces.
Oh, and FOG played right before Leeroy!
They pronounce their name EFF OH GEE (like effigy) That's awesome!
Anyways, Leeroy's second record should be done in the not-
so-distant future.
Danny Michel will be putting the finishing touches on it this month
and Magic Teeth Records will be releasing it as soon
as it's ready. Write me if you have any questions or come
and see me at the comic shop (633 Johnson Street).
I
love all the demo tapes people send me by the way.
Keep it up.
See you in T.O.
-Gareth.

Magic
Teeth Records sent their entire staff on an aeroplane
to grunge-city, Seattle this past Friday to rock with the
Young Fresh Fellows.
Magic Teeth Records is now broke.
We have the opportunity to aquire the music of Hank and Lily on our label
but
spent the money on beer in the United States!
Make a note of that for future ridicule, if you're the type who
hordes such info.
As for the show in Seattle, it was great.
The YFFs started the evening off with over an hour of their greatest hits
(!) then
allowed supergroup after supergroup to pay tribute to them with a selection
of
career-spanning cover songs.
Members from such bands as The Presidents of The
United States Of America, Mudhoney, Pure Joy, REM,
The Minus Five, The Silos and Fastbacks joined a veritable
who's-who of Northwest rock in a night that The Stranger
described as "Seattle Rock's equivelent of a Dean Martin Roast:
The A-list of the B-list getting tanked while skewering one of their own
with good, if sometimes head-scratching, humor."
In other news: Leeroy Stagger will be performing on
Friday, June the 11th at the Rivoli in Toronto during the
North By Norteast Festival. You can catch him and the
band at 11:00 PM. I'll be there hawking records if you
want to say hi.
If you're in Victoria on May 10th, check him out at the Lucky Bar on Yates
Street.
Ghosts played a set at The Second Story last week to an audience sitting
cross-legged in a semi-circle on the floor around them. Mosh pits have
now been replaced by the new, much safer, Nursery Pits.
You'd need a pin-hole camera strapped to the back of a chimp on a tricycle
if you wanted to capture any of that aesthetic of movement which is so
popular in rock journalism today.
The chimp rode his trike over to Logan's later that night to see Run Chico
Run, but a drunk guy kept getting in his way, so we went home early. Someone
set fire to a guitar or something, Jesus!
OK, that's it for now. Stay tuned for more adventures from Victoria rock.
Something better happen soon...

The
Pixies show in Victoria last night was outstanding.
Leeroy Stagger, the opening act, was met with favourable
cheer by over fifteen hundred headbobbing ticketholders.
It looked to me like they could have filled a few hundred more into that
huge room,
however, so it was unfortunate that so many people I know couldn't get
in.
Lousy fire codes. It was a beautifully choreographed event that went off
without
a hitch except for when someone turned the lights on during the encore
and
harshed everyone's buzz. Somebody's fucking mom, I bet.
The Magic Teeth "merch" booth was nestled nicely between the
gigantic
Pixies merch booth and the ever-popular DiscLive CD table
at the back of the venue. I was dwarfed by the sheer size of
their stacks of money. I did get a few copies of the
double disc "official" bootleg of the show not twenty
minutes after it ended, though.
There's apparently 1000 CD copies of each show on the tour to be sold.
I wonder if anyone will "collect them all?"
The world we live in never ceases to amaze me.
Now to sell my extra copies on eBay...
As for the Magic Teeth Contest #2:
The correct answer to my very tricky quiz was sent in by a
Mr. Bart Simpson of Vancouver, British Columbia.
In response to my Spider-Man question from last week,
he correctly answered "Peter Palmer."
That guy's a steel trap. If you haven't already,
please view his latest film, The
Corporation as soon as possible.
It will change our society. I wish I could do that.
Anyhow, an autographed copy of the Run Chico Run CD
"A New Peak In Lowdowness" is on its way to your
door, Bart. Thanks again.

Hello, you can stop emailing in your answers to
the
first-ever Magic Teeth website contest now. We officially have
a winner and, thusly, have no need for your further attempts.
A Mr. Jon Murphy of Edmonton, Alberta was the first to contact me with
the correct
answer. Dozens of you responded incorrectly with answers ranging from
the silly
(Hat-FM) to the deranged (Sausage Cartwheel). I appreciated every attempt,
but the only satisfactory answer was, of course, "Feel Like A Lotta
People"
by Andrew Molloy. (A little long-distance nepotism never hurt anybody,
did
it Jon?).
In other
news: The Perogy Cat has been making a
name for himself around the offices here for the past year
or so and has now officially taken on the job as mascot to
the Magic Teeth Empire. Star of many comic book
adventures written and drawn by Gareth, The Perogy
Cat is now available as a limited edition hand-sewn
plush doll. Standing an impressive 6" high and cute to the
touch, this little bundle of sweetness was handmade
by Bronwyn and Gareth with hopes that you'd want one on your living room
chair
or bedside table.
Now available for mass consumption, each lovingly
produced piece d'art comes with a selection of miniature
comic books which double as adoption papers!
Fifteen dollars buys you the works, postage paid.
Magic Teeth Contest
Number Two: An autographed
copy of the Run Chico Run CD, "A New Peak
In Lowdowness"
is the prize to the first person who correctly
answers this skill-testing question:
"What name was Peter Parker
accidentally called in the first issue of the Amazing Spider-Man comic
book
back in March 1963?"
This one is hard. Good luck.

Wednesday April 7, 2004:
Welcome to the new Magic Teeth
website, home of a slew of Victoria, BC bands such as
Leeroy Stagger, Ghosts, Run Chico Run, and Bum.
Feel free to have a look around while we unpack and perhaps you could
consider bookmarking it for future visits. I promise lots of contestsfeaturing
record and comic related fun over the next few months, so check back often.
Speaking of which, there's a free copy of the new Leeroy Stagger
"Dear Love" CD to the first person
who emails me with the answer to this pop quiz:
"What song was the title of the Bum Tribute album
taken from?"
If you're the first one to respond, I'll contact you and have the CD in
the mail asap.
The fun has already begun, and we aren't even officially
built yet.
Talk to you soon. -Gareth.
