Holsteiner Foundation Stallion "Capitol I".
Capitol I, is one of the most important producers of top Holsteiner Show Jumping Horses. The white stallion by Capitano out of Folia (by Maximus x Ramzes AA) was bred by Harm Thormählen from Kollmar, Germany. Capitol descends from one of the best dam lines in Holstein. Licensed in 1977 in Neumunster, Capitol I began his breeding career in Ostholstein, later moving on to Dithmarschen. In 1978 the stallion, owned by the Holsteiner Verband, gathered a 82.56 point score in his stallion performance test in Medingen. A large crop of his offspring became highly successful in sport and breeding. Famous names like Calato, Campesino, Carolus I and II, Nissan Carthago Z, Cassini, Colino, and Cento defended their sire's honour in show jumping. In Belgium the Capitol I descendant Canadian River is making headlines, while Indoctro is his most famous get in The Netherlands.

Relation on Landa's sire's side.
In the 50's and 60's, Germany experienced one of the only lulls in its
history of horse breeding. Motorization was replacing the workhorse and
sporthorse breeding was just taking off. Horses were ridden and shown for
pleasure, but a model for a better sport horse was just being formulated. Many
horses were no longer needed on the farms and were being sold as payment on
machinery. Rappel was so destined when she was bought by breeder Karl Heinz
Schuldt. He had followed her career for several years. In 1952 he bred her to
Ramzes and they named the colt Romanus. Romanus was then sold as a young horse
to jumper Hans Gunther Winkler.
In the very early days Winkler recognized great potential in the large, 170 cm dapple grey whom he started in the 1m50 classes when he was only six. His most successful period came in the early 60's when he successively won the silver, bronze and team silver in the European Championships in Aachen in '61, London in '62 and Rome in '63. During this time Romanus was twice declared the most deserving German showjumper.
The next time the mare conceived was in 1958 and this time to thoroughbred Frivol. The dark brown noble mare and her foal were then sold to breeder Rheder Thormuhlen, who was always looking for broodmares with sporting potential.
The filly born in 1959 to Rappel and Frivol xx was called Frija and was successfully competed in grand prix in Germany and Italy. After Frija, Rappel was bred three more times. In '61 Vase (Ramzes) was born and she turned out to be, without a doubt, the most successful daughter of Rappel. Being a full sister to Romanus, many offers were made for her purchase but Thormuhlen wanted to keep the horse for breeding and that he did.
Her first offspring, a colt called Grand Vikar, was by Colonel (Cottage Son xx). Unfortunately not approved because of the quality of his dapple grey, Thormulhen nevertheless bred Grand Vikar to several mares. The well known mare Infra who was already mother to the stallion Raimond (Ramzes) produced with Grand Vikar the mare Elonin. Elonin has two approved stallions in her family, Capitol Hill (Caletto I) and Lassard (Leonid). Grand Vikar's career continued as an international show jumper in Italy.
Following the success of Frija, Thormuhlen once again decided to breed to the thoroughbred Frivol xx in 1969. This cross resulted in the mare Harmonia who in combination with Lorenz (Ladykiller xx) produced the mare B-Loretta who is the registered mother of the approved stallion Corallo (Corrado I).
With international show jumpers performing throughout Europe, Vase and Maximus then produced her most successful daughter, Folia in '67. Folia, like her mother was to be used exclusively for breeding.
Folia's offspring include Kausa, a daughter of Freeman (Frivol xx),
approved stallion Cadillac (CalettoII), Constantin, Concorde, Crème de
Chantilly. Kausa is also registered as the dam of the approved stallion
Lordano (Lord). In 1974, Folia produced Lektion, a daughter of Cor de la
Bryere.
In 1975, the stallion Capitol I (Capitano) was born who was, without doubt, Folia's most successful product. Capitol I belongs to the most influential jumping horse producers of the past decade. This is confirmed by his 40 approved stallions: including Carthago, Capriol, Olympic Champion Cento, Cassini I, Carolus II, Calato, Cayenne, Clinton, Cardiff, Campione, etc. His jumping and earnings capabilities have been furthered as well by his daughters, Rixa (dam of Calvaro (Caletto I) , Soleil, dam of Corrado I and II (Cor de la Bryere) and Maria, dam of Corial (Cor de la Bryere).
The reason why Capitol I appears able to pass on his jumping capabilities so strongly is definitely connected to the fact that Ramzes' best two descendents in sport can be traced back to this own descent. Sire Capitano is the son of the legendary jumping mare Retina, while grandmother Vase is the full sister of Romanus. However the quality of his pedigree is very decisive. It is a well known public 'secret' that Capitano very likely isn't the son of the bay horse Corporal (Cottage Son xx), but a son of Grand Vikar (Colonel Vase) This line breeding with grandmother Vase could explain the remarkable strong inherited qualities that Capitol I possesses.
Capitol II (Capitano) who was born in 1978, was raised as a young horse for show jumping. He was approved on the basis of his performance in both Hanover and Holstein.
Folia also produced several offspring with Landgraf I (Ladykiller xx). A noble brown stallion, Latus, was sold by Thormuhlen at a young age and ended up with Paul Schockemohle and Franke Sloothaak. His fabulous technique earned him a second in the five year old Bundeschampionat. Latus I spent a breeding season at Zangersheide and produced international jumping stallions Lauriston and Lasangos. Latus II (Landgraf) was born in 1982 and has produced internationally known jumping horses, Montanus Laredo, Sandstone Landsmann, Lotus and Laconda.
Folia also produced offspring with the well-known jumper Caletto II (Cor de la Bryere). One of their stallions was approved in Holstein (Cellebrio) before the sire died.
In 1982 Folia and Capitano brought the mare U-Capitola into the world, a full sister to Capitol I and II.
U-Capitola, like her mother and grandmother was designated as a broodmare. U-Capitola successively produced, in combination with Lord, Calando I and Landadel the approved stallions Lord Capitol (Holstein), Cevin (Zangersheide), Land-capitol (Oldenburg). This year another new son of U-Capitola was introduced and approved at the 2001 Holsteiner Verband Stallion Approvals, Quite Capitol (Quidam de Revel).
U-Capitola also has two approved grandsons who descend from Quidam de Revel. Quite Eay I and II. Both descend from the mare Birte II (Landgraf I U-Capitola). The approved stallion Casir (Cor de la Bryere) was also bred by Thormuhlen out of Birte II.
Rappel's last daughter, Zierblute, also has built an impressive bloodline. Her daughter Ursulinerin (Urioso) produced the approved stallion Rheinblick (Romadour II) who has been used primarily for breeding dressage horses. She also produced the mare Revue Girl who has produced two approved sons with Argentinus, namely A-Dur I and A-Dur II. Revue Girl carried on the dam line by producing the famous dressage stallion Dream of Glory in 1989. Revue Girl II is also the mother of approved stallion Nintendo.
