A Message from the 1998 Awards Chairperson,

1998 is behind us, and with it the end of another competition year. The number of AHHA Award participants increases every year in the field of dressage, has remianed stagnant in combined training, combined driving , and breeding, but decreases in the jumper division.

The Holsteiner breed is known worldwide for its tremendous ability in the jumper arena, yet as an organization we have been unable to get that messge across in North America. To this date the American systems of ranking horses by breed is non-existent, so it falls on the shoulders of each warmblood registry to find ways to track winning horses. But that becomes an impossible task without the cooperation of these horses owners. The AHHA would like to urge all owners of Holsteiner horses to consider nominating their charges in the year 1999 as the Awards Program is not only a forum to be honored by your peers, but in itself is also another competition to be won or lost.

Thank you to all our sponsors and patrons who once again went one step further by donating the monies needed to fund the purchase of coolers, plaques, and ribbons that our Award winners receive. And of course we salute all members who compete their Holsteiners and congratualte those who are our 1998 Award winners!

  The Sire of the Year Award is offered to the Holsteiner stallion whose 
consistency as a progenator  has given to his offspring the ability to 
compete in the performance arena.  This award may also help to inform 
our members as to which bloodlines are doing well in the diverse 
disciplines of equestrian sport.

  A monetary award of $1,000 will be presented to the Holsteiner sire 
licensed with the A.H.H.A. that has the combined majority numerical total 
from the Awards Program from dressage, hunter, show jumping, eventing, 
driving, and breeding.

Points are as follows:

The Riverson Memorial Trophy Award


In 1997, Ms. Sam Boyd commissioned a sculpture by Tom Durham, SC in memory of her 1997 colt, 
Riverson (Riverman - Hayley x Merano) stem 18B1. Riverson was the first foal of her breeding 
program and, after his untimely death,  wished to have something to remember him by.

Ms. Boyd donated the sculpture to the American Holsteiner Horse Association as a perpetual
