Everyone's gearing up for the start of the race season. Scurrying to tweek that last minute tune up. No more procrastinating - get 'er done! Time's a wastin'! #8R-Sean Staniforth 169; #3-Sharon Constantine 72; #35-Caleb Van Bree 55R.

Dominating car(s) this race: #96.
Two rookies this year, #8 Sean Staniforth and #35 Caleb Van Bree. Alex Mouner defininately dominated the night with a clean sweep. Young rookie, Caleb Van Bree, was third fastest - great qualifying. Good to see Chad Dobranksi back where he should be with qualifying, after a couple of years of being plaqued with car problems.
This was a night of mayhem all round - with not much practice if any, first race, anxious drivers, and a full moon. Not a car came out of this season's first race without some damage. With only 10 cars, all were to run in both Heats and the Main. As the Dashes ran off great, not so the Heats and Main. The first Heat saw Constantine's #3 come out of turn two with foot on the throttle and hit the spun out car #35 Caleb Van Bree. Then Sharon was hit again by #62 and again by #77, both who also had no where to go. The #3 car was badly damage, maybe beyond repair. From the initial hit on #35, the left front wheel ended up under the floor boards at Sharon's feet, causing her instant and horrific pain. She thought her feet were both broken. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital where they took x-rays of her foot and a c-scan on her neck. She received a bad compression hit on her left foot and slight whip-lash - no broken bones or fractures. Van Bree was okay, but the damage to his car was major and was unable to finish the night. Parenteau and Waksel were able to repair their cars and return to finish the Heat. After the track was cleared, the remaining Heat laps were run off without incident and Mouner took the win. Constantine was hopeful for this year, as her car was running well and handling great, thanks to her son Sean doing last minute set-up at the track. She wishes to thank Doug Cahoon, Steve Siebring, Ryan Patterson, Sean Staniforth, Jim McKay, Don Mouner, and Guy Barrett for their help, advice and parts. A big thanks to her son Sean for all those trips down from Cobble Hill to work on the car and to Rhonda for sitting at home waiting until he returned late at night. A special thank you to Ryan Patterson who is apparently raising money to help fix ole #3. He said Sharon was there for him when he needed a car - great sportsmanship.
Several incidents in the Heats and Main, where all cars received minor damage except the #7 of Justin Woodske.
MUST HAVE BEEN THAT FULL MOON !!!
Next Race: Saturday, April 30th, Western Speedway

#29-Chad Dobranski 194; #3-Sharon Constantine 72; #35-Caleb Van Bree 55R.

Dominating car(s) this race: #96 and #18.
Another 'clean sweep' for Mouner! Matt Szauer ran an awesome race. Szauer caused Mouner to drive hard all night long to make his passes. Great driving Matt! Parenteau, Percival and Waksel continually battling for third and fourth in the Heats and Main showed good close racing with no incidents. A great night of racing.
Next Race: Saturday, May 14th, Western Speedway

MAY's THOUGHT OF THE MONTH
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

MAY 14th - WESTERN SPEEDWAY
Fast Time: #96 - Alex Mouner 19.014
Top Five Times: #96; #77-Jeremy Waksel 19.252; #18-Matt Szauer 19.264;
                       #7-Justin Woodske 19.288; #62-Gilles parenteau 19.456.
B Dash: #62-Gilles Parenteau
A Dash: #7- Justin Woodske
B Heat: (not run)
A Heat: (not run)
Main   : (not run)
Top 10 Driver Points: #96-Alex Mouner 509; #18-Matt Szauer 463; #7-Justin Woodske 459;
#62-Gilles Parenteau 442; #77-Jeremy Waksel 440; #20-Glen Percival 414; #8R-Sean Staniforth 400;
#29-Chad Dobranski 194; #3-Sharon Constantine 72; #35-Caleb Van Bree 55R.

A rain out! Qualifying and Dashes ran for all classes before the skies opened up.
Dominating car(s) this race: #96 and #18.
Unfortunately, Alex Mouner's 'clean sweep' trend ended this race with Justin Woodske winning the A Dash.
With points given for qualifying only, this has tightened the gap between the top seven cars. The next race could be an interesting one.
Constantine, Van Bree and Dobranski - no shows for April 30 and tonight. #3 and #35 hoping to return June 4th. It's said that #29 Dobranski is selling his car, so not sure if we'll see him back racing in the IMS 4's. He is looking at moving up to a Pro-4.
Rumour has it that Constantine is pondering whether to change her car number to refect a combination of car numbers of the drivers who are working on her new car to get it race ready. Another Datsun 510 will be fixed to race soon.
Next Race: Saturday, June 4th, Western Speedway

JUNE's THOUGHT OF THE MONTH
What hair color do they put on the driver's licenses of bald men? (- Maxine)

UPDATE - JUNE 2nd - PRACTICE NIGHT
First - Here’s the story:-
After Sharon Constantine’s accident, Ryan Patterson started a collection to either have her #3 fixed or get her into another car. He said she was there for him when he needed a car. Sharon was humbled by this and was teary-eyed. Great sportsmanship shown by Ryan. Sharon is so grateful to those who donated. Racers are a special breed she says. So Ryan, Sean Staniforth and Sean Constantine decided to buy another car. $700 was donated and Kevin Knight’s #49 Datsun 510 was bought, formerly run by Kevin, Alex Mouner, Matt Mansell and others. So the boys are fixing it up for Sharon to drive. They’ve done an awesome job so far.
Second - At Practice
Ryan Patterson was behind the wheel of the new Datsun tonight at practice to check setup. After 6 laps, boom! A spun bearing, and #2 rod went through the block, and the oil pan got it too. Bright orange flames were shooting high from the wheel well and hood. Pretty spectacular. Sharon nic-named Ryan "Fireball". His feet were still hot when he got back to the pits. A lot of hard work and money when into getting this Datsun 510 ready for the June 2nd race. Ryan said the car was getting around the track pretty good. Too bad...they are all a little down, but chins up. They will get 'er done! The boys are re-grouping to figure out the next move. No race Saturday for Sharon, but THEY'LL BE BACK!!!
Sharon wants to thank all those who donated monetarily and donated parts and other items. And special thanks to Ryan Patterson, Sean Staniforth and Sean Constantine for working on the car.

SPECIAL THANKS
Ryan Patterson, Sean Staniforth, Sean Constantine, Kevin Metcalf, Vern and Jan Percival, Chris Watt, Tony Siebring, Kevin Knight, Jim McKay, Jeremy Waksel, Dave Reside, Shawn Suckling, Bill and Corrine Bradstock, Cords Alpine, Alpine Rads.

JUNE 4th - WESTERN SPEEDWAY
Fast Time: #96 - Alex Mouner 18.948
Top Five Times: #96; #7-Justin Woodske 19.021; #18-Matt Szauer 19.19.217;
                       #62-Gilles Parenteau 19.319; #77-Jeremy Waksel 19.375.
B Dash: #88-Bill Stidston (R)
A Dash: #62-Gilles Parenteau
1st Heat: #96-Alex Mouner
2nd Heat: #18-Matt Szauer
Main   : #96 Alex Mouner
Top 10 Driver Points: #96-Alex Mouner 733; #18-Matt Szauer 667; #77-Jeremy Waksel 645;
#62-Gilles Parenteau 642; #8R-Sean Staniforth(R) 586; #7-Justin Woodske 538; #20-Glen Percival 414;
#29-Chad Dobranski 194; #20-Gord Percival 188; #99-Peter Holm(R) 174.

Dominating car(s) this race: #96, #18, #77.
Matt Szauer has found his "groove", running absolutely awesome to far this year, is challenging points leader Alex Mouner.
Welcome to our new Rookie, Peter Holm from Sooke wheeling the #99 Honda, formerly run by Chris McCrimmon. Holm brings several championships with him which he received running other motorsports classes.
In the 1st Heat, Woodske's clutch blew dropping him from third overall in points to sixth. A bitter disappointment for Justin.
Shawn Suckling had his car out for the first time with Bill Stidston behind the wheel. Car overheated in the 1st Heat, and then back out to run the Main. Shawn has indicated his car may not be back this year as he is not well. Wishing Shawn a speedy recovery.
In the Main, Rookie Peter Holm was caught up in a minor incident in turn 3 and pitted.
The #20 car spun out in turn 3 and had his driver's door to traffic, also a similar happening in the Stock Car Event, where the yellow was not thrown for either incident. For all classes, it seems this year the yellow flags are not being thrown when cars are across the track after a spin-out or other occurrence. This is a safety issue that could cause a major accident on the track if not addressed. Let's hope this is corrected for future races this year.
Constantine and Van Bree are still working feverishly to get their cars back out after a major accident April 16th. Hopefully they will return for the June 18th race. Dobranski has stated that he will be returning July 2nd race. With everyone back on the track, this should bring the car count up to a respectable number of twelve.
Mouner, Szauer and Waksel are the cars to beat charging hard every race. Keeping cool heads, they pick off cars one by one getting to the front.
Next Race: Saturday, June 18th, Western Speedway

JULY's THOUGHT OF THE MONTH
Advice is like snow; the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into, the mind.

JULY 2nd - WESTERN SPEEDWAY
Fast Time: #96 - Alex Mouner 18.903
Top Five Times: #96; #7-Justin Woodske 18.916; #7-Jeremy Waksel 19.278;
                       #18-Matt Szauer 19.323; #35R-Caleb Van Bree 19.446.
B Dash: #35R Caleb Van Bree
A Dash: #18-Matt Szauer
1st Heat: #96-Alex Mouner
2nd Heat: #18-Matt Szauer
Main   : #96 Alex Mouner
Top 10 Driver Points: #96-Alex Mouner 1146; #18-Matt Szauer 1067; #62-Gilles Parenteau 1009;
#77-Jeremy Waksel 991; #7-Justin Woodske 922; #8R-Sean Staniforth 742; #20-Glen Percival 570;
#35R-Caleb Van Bree 411; #3-Sharon Constantine 380; #20-Gord Percival 362.

Dominating car(s) this race: #96, #18.
Alex Mouner claimed another fast time, won the 1st Heat and the Main. Another great race for young Matt Szauer, winning the A Trophy Dash and the 2nd Heat, and placing second in the Main.
Both Dashes and Heats ran off clean.
Great Main Event green to checkered, which only saw one car spin in turn 2. But no problem as the #20 driven by Gord Percival spun and kept going and passed cars to finish seventh.
Next Race: Saturday, July 23rd, Saratoga Speedway (depending on car count...)

SARATOGA RACE
July 23rd race at Saratoga cancelled due to low car count...disappointing.
