Hay someone pruned my tree in the front yard for me. I noticed last night that there were footprints in the snow around the tree in the front yard. Well today in day light I can see there are fresh cuts on the tree where some of the limbs were cut off. Must have been done by the people who look after the park across the street. They were out there pruning last week so must have done those trees that are around the park too. I see the neighbors also had theres done. Considering I have no idea how to prune a tree like that and an about 25 ft to short to do it properly I dont mind one bit if they want to do it for me.

MG Update
Picked up the new fuel tank today. I cleaned all the packaging wax off and primed painted and undercoated the top of the new tank. Gotta leave it for a couple days to set up before I finsih the sides though. I Primed and painted what I could on the sides but until the top is dry enough I cant really flip it around to undercoat the sides completely. I'll do the botom when the tank is attached to the car. I really dont want to be messing around with fitting the tank while the botom is covered in messey undercoat. I took the old tank out already and sure enough three little pin holes in the top of the tank. I cleaned off the old undercoat that was on the body above the tank. I was impressed with what I found under it. The undercoat was pretty soft because of all the gas that had been absorbed into it so it came off pretty easily. The best part is...... The metal was in perfect condition under there. :) I wasnt sure what to expect when I got the tank down. Didn't think it would be to bad but sometimes you just dont know what you will find. Anyhow Cleaned off the old undercoat and preped for new primer, paint and under coat..... It looks beter than new under there now.

The only problem so far is the old tank was vented and the new one has no vent. Looks like I'm going to have to get a vented gas cap to avoid vapor lock or at least drill a small hole in the old one so that its vented.

Actually they they were taking money out of the till when I got up there so I offered to take some too. Even after bs'ing with her for a couple mins she the only money she would give me was the change. Thats it I'm never going to talk to her again. Well at least until I need some milk again. Get out of the gutter I'm talking about the kind that comes in the plastic jugs not the flesh ones.

Or if I ever have to to do some of that midnight parts shopping when I'm in Burnaby. Now I know I can. I wonder if they sell milk and munchies like they do in other convenience stores.

I guess its a good idea cause not everyone at sunrype knows the staff in the store already. But I hate little plastic cards and I really dont want to walk around with a picture of James. Theres much better looking girls around there to put on instead.

Just short of $70 so far but it makes life much easier so its worth it, and now I have all this room I didn't know I had before. All my books will fit under the stairs with the luggage too and there will still be room to put a couple of bodies in there too.

Well I filled up 3 of them and the 4th one is broken so it has to go back. Good news........... I actually have concrete under all those boxes of books. I think I'll pick up another 4 more when I exchange the broken one too. The recycle people are going to think I just moved in with all the broken down boxes I have to put out. Oh well it looks a tonne better now and I'm not even finished yet.

The basement looks so much more organized I'm going to do the garage with them too. Put the MG parts into them and get everything put away. Hmmmm Maybe I should get more than that. After all the ones I got today were going to partly be for some of my clothes. I can only get 4 maybe 5 in the trunk at a time though. HHHHmmnmmmmm does investors group provide misleading information???? YES

while what they say about borrowing and extra $5K and putting it into RRSP is technically correct they do not consider everything. Like how much it will cost you to borrow that $5 K into the RRSP to begin with.

Income out of an RRSP is taxable at 100 % Assuming a 23% tax rate net. suddenly your additional $34 K is only $26 K after tax. Hmmm now wait a sec you have to borrow the $5 to begin with Assuming 5% interest your $5 K investment has cost you $16,900. Hay now your only up $9.5 K

OK now lets say we didn't really borrow the money for the full 25 years and we paid it back the following year instead so interest only cost us $250 for the year. But wait if we did that then that $5000 less that we dont have to invest in the RRSP the following year.

So Finally lets not borrow the $5K and just put the $5 plus interest that we have into an RRSP. and then rather than paying off the loan that we didn't have to take to buy the extra 5K we invest that the following year. Hmmm the RRSP is worth $67.5K at the end of 25 years rather than $68K. Oh but wait we haven't taken the 23% tax out yet Hay now were only down $700 from the borrow option. Well look at that were not really $34K ahead after all were only ahead $700 which is basically the compounding on the extra $400 earned by making the deposit 1 year earlier.

So there additional $34 K in savings happens to be only $700 when you look at the whole picture. Gee imagine that deceptive advertising.

There is also some savings by having the tax refund, but there example did not assume refund reinvestment so neither did I. There is also the issue of changes in tax rates from year to year, and you may be better off from a tax refund standpoint to have an RRSP contribution in Yr2 as income may be higher but with the assumptions made of no refund reinvestment that really doesn't play into the equation. Depending on your taxable income level there is a pretty good chance that by deducting $10 in one year you will reduce yourself into a lower tax bracket where your not getting as much bang for your buck as you could by having deducting $5K per year and haveing the full 10K returning at the higher tax bracket. So that $700 could even be less when thats added to the equation.

Anyhow thats the end of my rant for today. I'm not saying IG is committing fraud by saying what they have as technically they are correct, but when you consider more of the picture than just the frame $34K is really $700 or potentially less. Oh yeah and I wont even talk the Present value of that $700 Ok yes I will, at 2% inflation thats roughly $450 in current purchasing power.

Anybody want a scanner?????? $5 billion. Printed off a picture that I took with the Digital cam a while back. Printed it to 5x7 on semi gloss photo paper. Let it dry and cut it out, framed it and put it on the wall. Amazing quality. Cant tell the diference between the one I printed off and a normal picture.

Tested the Scanner part to see what kind of quality it scans at. Lets just say is scans at to high a resolution. A 4x6 pic can be turned into a 1.5 gig file on my pc if I put it at the highest resolution. I set it to something a little more reasonable and make a 4x6 into a 10 meg jpeg. I dont think I'll be scanning at something that high unless its tiny. Other than the speed at that high a res. it picks up everything on the picture including specs of dust that the eye cant see. They can be fixed though. Anyhow this far exceeds what my old scanner was able to do so if you want my old one yell. Oh and yes I can set the new one to scan at a lower res so not all scanns will be that big.

A couple things

First off check it out.... since there shutting down Kazza or suing everyone who uses it. BOOMBox Reminds me of taping music off the radio long long ago. You can list all the radio stations and record the music they are streaming. Make sure you pick a fairly decent quality stream 128KBPS or it will sound like your recording AM Radio on an 8 track.

Also the Acura is in the shop for the Tranny. :( Ok I'm spoiled now..... I've only had to drive the loaner maybe 5 K's home from the shop and then hid it in the garage so no one would know I'mf driving a Civic. I already want my TL back. The 1.7 EL with and automic must be a womans car cause its got no balls.... Hmmmm wait a sec it has a bra on it to.... Coincidence I think not. Ok its not that bad, considering the price and I'm sure a standard would be a bit better for performance. But I'm spoiled. I want my sport shift, my seat heaters, my sun roof, My stereo, My leather, my winter tires, my climate control, and of course my balls, The sound of an engine that didnt come from a sowing machine, My car that I love being seen in. This of course means that I have now realised I can never go backwards to a entry level car again. I lost my entry level car virinity and I liked it.

I prefer my MG to the almost new EL. But then again you cant knock that $#!t eating MG driving grin off my face with a baseball bat and a chain saw. Even after 8 years of diving one, I still enjoy every day I drive it. Theres just something about driving around topless in a car that is basically customized to what I want but still overall stock. And of course the heads turning as you drive by with that ball rattleing rumble from the exhaust that makes it sound like its got more balls that it really does. By the way even my MG has more balls than the automic EL. Hang on gotta check the calendar.... Only 122 more days and I can put it back on the road. April 14th. Great now I'm depressed I have to wait for that long before I can go for a drive in it. I guess I'll just go sit in it and make vroom vroom noises instead.

Oh yeah and dont drink and make vroom vroom noises (Real or Fake) or I will have to some and beat you with the baseball bat and chain saw I took from the guy who tried to get that MG grin off my face. That reminds me I need to go and design the Tatoo I'm gonna get. (Watch my mother freak when she reads that) I figured a Union Jack on one side and the Welsh Dragon on the other with a gold MG logo in the center of it across my back or maybe tatooed onto the back of my scalp.

Whats up with this wet white garbage everywhere. The one large round cedar on the botom of the yard was spread out like a buterfly because of the weight of the snow on the top of it and the ones at the back of the yard were weighed down a little but there not as wide across as the botom one so not as much surface area on the top to collect snow. I shook the snow of the worst one but it was still a little droopy so hopefully the rest of the snow melts and it straightens up. At least I wasnt the only one with cedars that looked like that. The globes in the neighbors yard were almost on the ground with the weight of snow.

But IE on this computer just doesn't like that site for some reason. I uninstalled and reinstalled still same problem.... So I did it again and it didn't work the second time either. Anyhow it appears I had a corupt file in the cache which was causing the problem. I destroyed the entire cache and then opened up the web site and the performance was back to normal..................

Friggin computers... I've probably spent 5 hours on this thing on and off trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with it. Still not as twisted the problem where a printer attached to one computer caused Office to quit working on a different PC. That one was screwy, at least this one makes sence.

Hmmm Need to figure out what to do with a couple 4 inch goldfish. I decided they were coming out of the main tank cause they were scarring the living fish poop out of the guppies. When the 11 of them combined aren't as big as one of the gold fish they kinda try to hide in the corner behind the heater and uptake pipes. Took out the golds and they are living in a pail right now but will be transfered to a 10 gallon for the rest of the winter when the water temperature normalizes and the chlorine disipates. They have have it good for a couple years but they are outgrowing the tank so they need a new home. Now the Guppies are happier and swimming around and pooping normally instead of having is scared out of them. :) The shark doesn't seem to bother them so he can stay. He is fine with fish that are smaller than him but anything bigger than him and he gets defensive and chases them around. (hes got little shark syndrome)

Holly crap batman.............. I put the K&N in the car about 1/2 way through a tank of gas.... Well I filled up on Monday and just did the math on the mileage just now. Put in $38 to fill the tank after driving 380 KM on the tank. Ok maybe I didn't force feed the tank (the pump stopped on $38 almost like I planned it that way) Anyhow The mileage. When I first got it I was getting 24-25 MPG aroung town. Fire came around and that went down to 21 to 22 MPG. Replaced the Air filter 2 weeks ago with the K&N. Back up to 25 MPG now and I only had the new filter for 1/2 the tank. I suspect it will be around 27 MPG under normal use and a full tank.

(just not the one I just put in. I've een enjoying the power from the K&N a little to much to see much fuel economy gains.)

This is hard to belive but the temperature of the CPU is now lower than the temperature of the air in the case. And the air flow is so good in the case that the temperature actually increases when you open it as the air flow over the processor is disrupted. Right now the case temp is at 33 but the CPU is at 30. Thats right the Case is heating up the CPU now rather than the other way I expect the case temp is so high because of the heat from the hard drive. Gonna have to get a hard drive fan I think to get the air from the hard drive out of there. All this from only adding 1 p2 mm exhaust fan and opening up the front. Oh yeah I also reorganized all the wiring in the case in order to not disturb the air that is flowing through from front to back.

Ok yes so I'm cheating and running CPU Cool. I found out how this acutally works. I didn't know so I assumed that it changed the CPU Fan Speed to increase air from but watching the fan rotations they dont really fluctuate based on when I turn the cooling on or off. Anyhow the software basically puts unused CPU power to sleep by closing the I/O for them. As a result they are not drawing any resources and not generating any heat. Very cool...... In more ways than one. As an extra bonus as the cycles are not generating heat they are not using power and operating costs are lower. According to the web site that is. That means it might cost $.50 a year less to run the box with the software. High intesity processing does use up more of the processin power though and the Temp climbs back up but its still well within the safe range, and I haven't even applied the new thermal paste yet.

on 2003-10-06 21:47:00, mark (IP Logged) wrote

Ok just cause I haven't posted in a while. Looks like I have some of the heat issues a little more under control.

Put an oversize exhaust fan on the back on the box and opened up the front. I am going to put a intake fan there so a I will rig something up to fit in the opening... anhow right now the Processor is at 34 C not really under load, but when Under load I was seeing a steady 54 C with the case closed and the stock thermal paste that was salvaged from the mess that they guys that made the computer made. I will replace that past soon and that should help too. 54 C under load with the ocationsl jump to 56 is well within the limits of the processor though so I can live with that. But I wont. :) Thats why I'm putting another fan on the front and better thermal paste on the heat sink. I may even cut a hole in the side of the box and put another intake fan there that will blow direclty on the processor.

Oh well gotta go sort out the cat box and the garbage for tomorrow. Oh yeah and send a cheque to the sprinkler guy for the blow out.

Ok got my new K&N for the Acura. And the pushy sales person that sold it to me persuaded me to buy a recharge kit for them too. I say them cause the MG has them too. Some people's children. Oh well I was expecting it to be quite a bit more that it was so even with the recharge kit I spent less than I was expecting to. :) Got more power now too. :) Tires could get expensive if it wasn't for traction control. I have to be a little more gentle on the gas than I was before the filter so there must have been some significant restriction in air flow with the stock filter compared to this one.

Hopefully gas mileage will return to the mid 20's or so (what it was before the fire) or maybe even better now that its replaced. So long as I keep my big right foot off the floor.

Not sure how much of a difference there would be between the K&N vs a new Paper filter though.

I realized it wasn't who I thought it was (she was cute instead), So I waved back again. Didn’t get a good look thought so it may be someone I know

I hate that when you dont recognize the person waving and dont recognize the car. I've had at least a half a dozen of these drive by relationships since I put the MG on the road this year. Because of your stupidity there is just enought room left on the road to get 2 cars side by side so they are only moving 5 MPH through there or we would have body parts all ofer the place. I guess you dont have to worry about brain damage though do you. Afterall if you had a brain you wouldnt be parked where you are to begin with or walking down the road like it was your living room. I heard they had people patrolling in Glenmore last night to watch for hot spots where embers my have landed to ensure there were no more fires. Afterall if they were anything like me they couldnt sleep anyhow because of all the smoke. What a relief when I got up this morning and I could actually see across the street. I can breath again.

If everyone does this we should build up enough of a draft to blow this smoke out. Of course we may damage the ozone layer with the toxic gasses that will be released but it cant be any worse than the junk were breathing in now. Be carefull if your to close to the fire though. We dont want any more combustion happening.

If you insist you can substitue the beans with your favourite gas producing food source.

At least theres a road up there now so they can get the tanker in there if there was a fire.

Ok it must be the end of the world no. Everything is on fire and communications are crapola. Dead cell phones, No internet for at least 24 hours. Hmmmmmm something. Maybe I should build an arc or something and start gathering 2 of ever animal. Then again I dont think noah had anything to do with the end of the world but what do I know I can barely spell bible.

Finally got off my but and had a look at the pictures from the switch installation for the electric fan. Check it out but dont look at the dust in the pic. I havent detailed it in a while and the lot across the street from work is having a soil change so lots of dust.

Look out Edmonton you have a heat wave coming. all the way into the high 20's and maybe even 30 by the end of the week.......... Oh yeah and dont forget the snow next week. High 30's may be friggin hot but I have AC and a convertable that will give people whiplash what more could I want. With only 100 HP the only way the drive or passengers will get the whiplash is by driving by the beach.

Now I'm mad........ Some goofball copycat in town painted a Rubber bumper MG the same color as mine. Someone I know saw it on Friday and thought it was mine and then when someone else got in it he was wondering WTF was going on. Apparently a very slight difference in color to mine but pretty much the same. I bet he doesn't have leather seats and a beefed up engine though.

Found the perfect switch. It fits right in the existing hole that is used for the light switch on later models in the steering column so the fit and finish looks perfect. So I finished wiring the fan this afternoon so now I can turn it on/off without having to pop the hood. Wooohooooo this should make life easier and a little more cool.

on 2003-07-26 16:24:00, mark (IP Logged) wrote

Friggin heat. Decided to attempt to turn off the heater to see if it was still puking out coolant now that the seels are no longer dry. Well Guess what.......... It does. I got into town and parked it for a couple minutes while I ran into the store and when I came back out there was a warm coolant lake under it. Popped the hood and opened up the heater control again to stop the leak. Of course the heater control valve is just above the distributor so there was a little complaining when I started her. I'm assuming it was coolant and not slobber from the people that were drooling around it.

Well I am now missing 1/2 the coolant so she ran a lot warm going home. I figured that while the level is down I might as well put the thermostat back in so it warms up quicker in the mornings. Big mistake either there isn't enough flow through it or its defective. Went down to the gas station with the thermostat in and the temp climbed up like it was on an elevator even with the electric fan and the water pump fan running. Ok drain some coolant one more time and take the thermostat back out. Now climbing up Dilworth, sitting in traffic or parking lot at the beer store with the outside temp in the High 30's the temp was just slightly above the N. I will live with the long time for it to warm up in the mornings if the alternative is overheating when its warm out.

Picked up the relay while I was in town so I can wire the fan in. Still haven't got a swith for it so I will wire it to be on all the time until I can find the right switch and if I need to turn it off I will pop the hood and pull the fuse for now.

on 2003-07-25 07:27:00, mark (IP Logged) wrote

Ok have to put the thermostat back in the car. Drove all the way to work and didn't even get close to reaching N. Got about 1/2 way there but that is it. I should get a new heater control valve also so I can close off the heater now as I really dont need to have it open to help with cooling any more.

I just reinstalled my rad after a more efficient core was put in. I dont know all the techno stuff behind it but the what they told me in english is the volume flowing through is greater and it has little dimples through all the fins to slow the coolent down in its travels through the mystical rad to so it is better cooled. With the new rad I am now seeing just on the high end of the N when in mild traffic instead of the 1/2 to the H I was seeing in this weather. This is also with part of the rad blocked by the fan motor for the electric fan that was not there before.

With the new core I can watch the needle move downwards as soon as you start moving and air starts flowing through the rad again. (Of course its out of the corner of my eye I'm seeing this I dont drive by the guages only.) I will wire the aux fan this weekend for those days stuck in traffic just in case. (After all its already on the visa card and been modified to fit, might as well use it)

on 2003-07-23 19:56:00, mark (IP Logged) wrote

Dont have the Rad back yet and I decided that I'm not going to bother with building the cardboard splash shield. I figued I probably dont really need it with the new rad and fan. That and it will get in the way when the oil gusher is fixed and probably have to be ripped out anyhow. guess I better go do some reading of that look at canada book as I havent picked it up in months and have to write the test in a couple weeks.

on 2003-07-22 21:59:00, mark (IP Logged) wrote

Well I broke down and did what I didn't want to do and got and electric aux. fan for 'the B'. $130 lighter and after modifiying everything to get it to fit the rad correctly and lined up for the nylon mounting rods I looked that the rad wrong and it went pop. I didn't want to put one of the through the rad fans on to begin with but it was pretty much my last resort at this point. Well Might as well just recore the rad rather than getting it patched a 3rd time and have to remove it again in a year to fix another leak.

Hopefully the new core will solve the heat problems, but as I have already bought and modified the electric fan to fit I might as well add that to the rad in the process so its there incase its needed. Can never have to much cooling around here expecially now that the engine is probably pushing close to double the HP than it had when new. (Sounds impressive but when the base is that low to begin with its not that big of an increase) Hopefully the Rad shop can put in collers of some type for the mounting rods to go through in order to reduce the chance that the rods go through the new core. I've heard of to many leaks caused by those rods which was why I was reluctant to get one in the first place. Oh well I guess the Rad needed to be replaced anyhow or it wouldn't have sprung a leak by me just thinking about pushing the rod through.

Hay with the rad out it should be easier to build a more complete splash shield. Will have to look into building and painting that tomorrow night before reinstalling the rad if they get to it tomorrow. If not........ Oh well I'll rough it in the acura for another day.

There goes the money I didn't have to spend on getting the dryer fixed. (and a few hundred more) Dohhhhhhh!!!!!!

OH yeah and the new oil pan gasket should be here Friday not Thursday. I think Sarah said it had to come from Edmonchuck.

I was right.... I locked out the transmitters. Unlocked them and it all works again now. Who puts these security features on anyhow. They should know I will forget they are there and cause myself frustration figuring its broken somehow.

I just though of something I bet I hit the lock out button on the Garage door opener this morning when I went into the garage. All the Symptoms are there. Transmitters dont work and have to hold the button down to close the door.

I hope its something that simple.

ARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH Friggin Garage door opener has given up for some reason. Cant close or open the door using the remote any more. I'm putting the blame on the MG for this one. I think it is mad at me for not bringing it out in the sun so it booby trapped the door on me.

Ok thats enough of the fry an egg on my forehead weather. My car doesn't like it at all. Gonna have to take the Acura.... Hmmmm notice what the first 2 letters of that word is. AC. :) Dont want to destroy the engine on the MG with heat so its back to the stand by until the weather cools down a bit. Even with the thermostat out and some ducting done to direct the air flow better its still running warm.

Woohoo thats better. The hampster had a hot poker stuck up his back side this morning and is running a lot better. There is power again woohoo. Yes its still only MGB power but its much better than it was a couple hours ago. and way way way better than stock. The tire chirp going into second gear surprised the hell out of me. I'ts never done that before even on the old sun baked and harddend 15 year old tires that were on it before. Just have to fix the oil gusher coming from the oil pan and do something about the temprature and I will be set. Hmmmmmmm looks like the next step is a 10 inch electric pusher fan to accompany the stock air disrupter attched to the water pump. Some people call this a fan but fans usually result in some kind of direction to the air flow.

I also put my webcam picture higher on the page so sexy women with huge tracks of land can drool over it.

Just want to say thanks to the moron who decided to turn in front of me while coming down Leckie. Thanks for the flat spots on the tires in the MG you twit. I dont even have enough power in the car to burn off some rubber and get rid of the corner so it was like driving home in with bricks for tires. They felt like this . Ok well maybe its not that bad but this makes a better story, and I get to use my lumpy MG smilly face this way. But the good news is the breaks work and my tires smell like tires when they are burned into the ashfault.

AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I hate people who dont know how to drive. Friggin morons should all be taken out back and shot. And there all out there today I swear. I ran into 4 of them today. One of the buggers forced me off the road and screwed up the lower trim piece on the front of the Acura. Good thing I replaced it when I first got the car (a whole 2000 KM's ago). I now see how the other one probably got screwed up. Well I guess its better than the damage that would have been caused if I didn't move over. I really dont want to test the airbags at all especially not head on with a truck.

The pass side wheel went into a bit of a pot hole and the botom of the bumper hit a bit of gravel hill and screwed it up in the process. Just more proof that were out of chlorine.

If anyone has any left over chlorine from an old pool or anything please donate it to the gene pool.
