Game Story - March 27, 2004
The second last game of the season for the Ice Breakers was a see-saw event. Facing Rush, the game began at 9:45 PM at Oakridge arena. Shelley Kearse was rewarded with a hat trick for her efforts that evening, with her first goal opening the scoring at 5:36 minutes into the first half. Rush answered back at 1:14 minutes later tying the game at 1-1. Shelley again scored at the 9:30 mark and Rush scored less than a minute later. Shelley's third and final goal came at the 12:30 minute mark of the first half and the Ice Breakers closed out the first half leading by a score of 3-2. The Ice Breakers drew first blood in the second half when Susanne Pedersen popped in a goal at the 3:52 minute mark. Not to be outdone, Rush mounted a strong offensive and scored two more goals, tying the game at 4-4 with less than four minutes of play left. The Ice Breakers' called a time out with less than two minutes to go. The team decided on a power line, and they then took to the ice for one last offensive push. With straight time now running, the Ice Breakers took control of the ring and headed into Rush territory. With strong perseverance and great passing, Anya Kuhn passed the ring across in front of the crease to Karen Saunders who batted the ring into the air. The ring came down on the back of the Rush goalie and fell into the net with less than one minute to go. Karen's goal clinched the win for the Ice Breakers as they defeated Rush 5-4. For the second game in a row the victorious Ice Breakers left the ice in their new jerseys, which now have a 2-0 winning streak.
In the dressing room after the game, the team presented Mark and Lori with a pre-wedding gift and card from the team for their upcoming marriage in May. The team wishes them well. The team also wanted to thank Mark and Lori for hosting this year's Ice Breakers' web page. They have done a phenomenal job on the home page, and it is truly a class act.
