The Post Adoption Registry

The Post Adoption Registry is running about 2 years behind with their search files, however this does not affect your receiving of non-identifying information. This information is usually available to you in one or two months from the time you register.

Those entitled to register under The Adoption Act are:

There are no fees to register, for non-identifying information, or to conduct a search. The only fee is for vital statistic costs, which will be refunded if not required.

Adoptees should be sure to specify they want contact with any member of their biological family.

Adoptees should request a photocopy of the non-identifying information about their birthparents. Birthparents and birthsiblings should request a copy of the non-identifying information about the adoptive parents.

Non-identifying information will give an adoptee the following information about their birthmother and birthfather, i.e. racial and religious background, parent's ages and occupations, ages and occupation of siblings, a physcial description, known medical conditions, hobbies, and their relationship and circumstances of the adoption.

The non-identifying information given to the birthmother, birthfather, and siblings, will include i.e. date of arrival of the adoptee into their home, the adoptive parents racial and religious background, occupations, if other children in the family and their ages and if adopted or biological, and hobbies.

The non-identifying information will only be as complete as the amount of information taken from the birthmother at the time of the adoption. Sometimes there is very little information about the birthfather.
